HUAWEI Mate 70 Series Launched in China

HUAWEI has once again pushed the boundaries of smartphone technology with its latest flagship series, the HUAWEI Mate 70 Series. This powerful duo, comprising the standard HUAWEI Mate 70 and the premium HUAWEI Mate 70 Pro, offers a compelling blend of sleek design, cutting-edge hardware, and innovative camera systems.

Design and Display

Both the Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro boast a premium build quality with IP69K water and dust resistance. The standard Mate 70 sports a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. The Pro model ups the ante with a larger 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel, also featuring FHD+ resolution and a variable refresh rate. Both displays offer impressive peak brightness of 2,500 nits and are protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass for added durability.

Camera Capabilities

One of the standout features of the Mate 70 series is its advanced camera system. The main camera on both models utilises a variable aperture lens with an f/1.4-f/4.0 range, enabling exceptional low-light performance and versatility. The 50MP main sensor is paired with a 40MP ultrawide lens.

The Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro differentiate themselves in their telephoto capabilities. The standard model offers a 12MP periscope lens with 5.5x optical zoom, while the Pro model boasts a 48MP periscope lens with 4x optical zoom. Both devices feature a dedicated spectral imaging sensor, which captures more colour data for improved accuracy and natural-looking images.

Performance and Software

While HUAWEI hasn’t officially disclosed the chipset powering the Mate 70 series, it’s widely speculated to be the Kirin 9100, a 6nm SoC manufactured by SMIC. This chipset is expected to deliver flagship-level performance and efficiency.

Both phones run on HUAWEI’s HarmonyOS 4.3, with an update to HarmonyOS Next planned for the future.

Battery and Charging

The Mate 70 packs a 5,300mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Mate 70 Pro offers a larger 5,500mAh battery with faster 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

Pricing and Availability

The HUAWEI Mate 70 Series is currently available for pre-order in China, with deliveries expected to start on the 4th of December. Pricing of the devices is as below:
