HUAWEI Mate X7 Debuts with High-Pressure Water Resistance and Silicon-Carbon Battery Tech
HUAWEI has officially unveiled its latest generation of flagship hardware in China, introducing the HUAWEI Mate X7 foldable and the mainstream Mate 80 series. While the Mate 80 lineup brings significant updates to display brightness and processing power, the event’s primary focus was the engineering advancements found in the Mate X7, particularly regarding chassis durability and ingress protection.
IP59 Ingress Protection in a Foldable Chassis

The defining technical achievement of the Mate X7 is its IP58 and IP59 rating. Unlike standard IP68 ratings, which certify against static submersion, the IP59 standard certifies protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
Achieving this in a foldable form factor, which inherently requires moving mechanical parts and hinge gaps, represents a significant evolution in sealing technology. HUAWEI has managed to implement this protection while reducing the device’s physical footprint; the Mate X7 measures 9.5mm in its folded state and 4.5mm when unfolded, with a total mass of 235g, figures that compete directly with non-foldable flagship devices.
Display and Processing Specifications
The HUAWEI Mate X7 features a dual-display configuration comprising a 6.49-inch cover panel and an 8-inch LTPO OLED inner screen. Both panels support variable refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, optimising power consumption based on content frame rates.
Computational tasks are handled by the new Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, a proprietary SoC designed to manage the thermal constraints of the slim chassis while driving high-resolution multitasking. Energy is provided by a 5,600mAh Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) battery, a chemistry chosen for its higher energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion cells. The system supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging protocols.
Optical Hardware

The imaging array on the Mate X7 features a 50MP primary sensor equipped with a variable aperture mechanism (f/1.4–f/4.0), allowing for mechanical control over depth of field and light intake. This is paired with a new 50MP periscope telephoto module providing 3.5x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultra-wide sensor.
Pricing and Availability
The HUAWEI Mate X7 is priced starting at CNY 12,999 (approximately RM7,950) for the 12GB RAM / 256GB storage configuration. Open sales for the device are scheduled to commence in China on 5 December.
