Netflix in Talks to License iHeartMedia Video Podcasts in Direct Challenge to YouTube
Netflix is reportedly in active negotiations to license a selection of video podcasts from iHeartMedia, a move that signals a significant escalation in the streaming giant’s strategy to compete directly with YouTube.
According to reports citing people familiar with the matter, the talks are focused on securing exclusive rights for the video versions of several popular iHeartMedia podcasts. If a deal is finalised, it would mean that full video episodes of the included shows would be removed from YouTube, their current primary distribution platform.
This development is part of Netflix’s broader expansion beyond its traditional slate of movies and television series. The company is aggressively pushing into the lucrative video podcast space to capture a larger share of audience time and ad revenue.
The potential iHeartMedia partnership follows a similar deal Netflix struck just last month with Spotify. That agreement will bring a curated collection of Spotify-owned video podcasts, including “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” exclusively to Netflix starting in early 2026, pulling them from YouTube as well.

iHeartMedia, a giant in the audio and podcasting industry, boasts a high-profile catalogue of shows, including “The Breakfast Club,” “Las Culturistas,” “Jay Shetty Podcast,” and “Stuff You Should Know.” Sources indicate that the deal would likely involve a select subset of iHeart’s most popular programs rather than its entire portfolio.
News of the potential licensing deal had an immediate and dramatic impact on the market. Shares for iHeartMedia surged as much as 27% on Tuesday, hitting a two-year high as investors reacted optimistically to the prospect of a new revenue stream and partnership with the world’s largest streaming service.
Neither Netflix nor iHeartMedia has officially commented on the discussions.
