New HomePod mini and Airtags Are Reportedly Coming Soon

LEAK: Apple Code Reveals Imminent HomePod Mini and AirTag Upgrades

Fresh evidence discovered in leaked internal software suggests Apple is preparing to release updated versions of two of its most popular accessories. According to a report by Macworld, code found within an internal build of iOS 26 points to a refreshed HomePod mini and a second-generation AirTag, both expected to arrive in 2026.

HomePod Mini Gets a Specification Bump

The HomePod mini, which has not seen a hardware update since its introduction in 2020, appears set for a refresh. The leaked code identifies the new device under the codename “B252.” This pretty much confirms the previous rumours of Apple coming out with a new HomePod mini.

While the exterior design is not expected to change significantly, the internals are slated for a major upgrade. The new model will reportedly run on the S10 chip, the same processor powering the latest Apple Watch models. This serves as a significant jump from the ageing S5 chip used in the current version.

This upgrade is expected to deliver faster performance and improved wireless reliability. However, despite the new processor, the report indicates the device is unlikely to support the full suite of Apple Intelligence features. Those advanced AI capabilities will likely be reserved for a rumoured “HomePad” smart home hub, which is expected to house a more powerful A18 chip.

Next-Generation AirTag Features

The leaked software also provides the most detailed look yet at Apple’s plans for a second-generation AirTag. The code suggests the new tracker will address several limitations of the original model.

Key features discovered in the leak include:

  • Improved Moving: A new capability allowing users to precisely locate an AirTag even while it is in motion.
  • Enhanced Precision Finding: Powered by an expected upgrade to the ultra-wideband chip.
  • Crowded Environment Tracking: Better accuracy in busy locations where signal interference is common.
  • Detailed Battery Reporting: More granular data on battery life status.

Interestingly, internal references tag these features as “2025AirTag,” suggesting the product was originally intended for release this year but was pushed to 2026.

A Busy 2026 for Accessories

With both the HomePod mini refresh and the AirTag 2 surfacing in iOS 26 code, we can definitely see a busy first half of 2026 for Apple’s wearables and home accessories division. These updates would mark the first significant hardware changes for both product lines in several years.
