Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop featuring the Snapdragon X Elite processor is generating buzz, with early benchmarks suggesting it can compete with Apple’s M2 chip.
Snapdragon X Elite Early Results Show Promise

Hardware enthusiast HXL shared benchmark results for the Surface Laptop 7 with the X Elite. While running CPU-Z on a virtual machine introduces limitations, the results are intriguing. The Surface Laptop 7 scored significantly higher in multi-threaded performance (7,923.5 points) compared to the M2 in the virtual machine (3,822.3 points). However, the M2 maintained a slight lead in single-threaded performance.
A Viable Windows Alternative
This benchmark is the first real-world comparison between the X Elite and Apple silicon. It suggests that Snapdragon X Elite laptops could be a compelling alternative for Windows users who prioritize thin and light designs, extended battery life, and the option of a familiar operating system. Additionally, Qualcomm’s official Linux support for Snapdragon X processors expands the appeal to open-source enthusiasts.
More Data Needed for Confirmation
While these results are promising, more benchmarks are necessary for a definitive comparison. Nevertheless, the X Elite appears to be a strong competitor to Apple’s well-regarded M-series processors. With more laptops featuring the X Elite like the ASUS Vivobook S 15 and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x set to ship soon, we’ll soon have a clearer picture of how these chips stack up in real-world use.
