OPPO A95 Unboxing & First Impressions: VERY INTERESTING! ⚡

Hey what’s up? I’m back with yet another brand new phone. This is the OPPO A95, OPPO’s latest mid-range phone. Now, I’m sure you’re dying to know what’s in the box and what’s awesome about this phone, so keep reading!

.
Unboxing

The phone comes in a minimalist-looking blue colored box with a unique “A” in front, the phone’s variant on the top left, and “OPPO A95” below.

Then at the back, there is some of the phone’s key USP over there, the color of the phone and once again the RAM and the storage specs over there.

Sliding the box cover, you’re greeted with a box with the OPPO logo on the front. Opening that up, you will find a smaller white box. In there, there is the SIM ejector tool, the typical documentation.

And a clear phone case to of course keep your phone protected at all times and then you will find the phone itself.

Underneath, you’ll find a USB-A to USB-C cable and a 33-watt Flash Charge USB-C charger.

Build and design

Now let’s take a look at the phone’s build and design, the A95 comes in a typical candy bar phone design, available in either Glowing Rainbow Silver or Glowing Starry Black. Such fancy names!

The Glowing Rainbow Silver you see here features seven gorgeous colors that give you a different look under different lighting conditions.

There’s a shimmering finish on the body which OPPO calls OPPO Glow, very similar looking to OPPO’s Reno series, so if you love the look of Reno’s finish you will surely love this.

While it gives out a subtle shimmering effect, what you’ll appreciate is the dual matte finish that is fingerprint-resistant. Not only that, it’s also scratch, wear and fire-resistant. So not only is it quite aesthetically pleasing but it is also very tough.

The rear camera arrays are on the top left and the unassuming OPPO logo on the bottom right.

The black rectangular camera array houses three cameras and a flash module. Thankfully, the camera bump is thin and so wouldn’t wobble too much if you place the phone on a flat surface, just slightly towards the middle left, but still pretty much stable.

The phone feels extremely premium in the hand, surely does reminds me of the Reno series once again, where it measures at just 7.9mm thin and weighs only 175 grams despite coming with a large battery, so that’s sweet.

As for the phone’s ports and buttons, other than the USB-C port down below, there is the headphones jack (Nice!) and the mono firing speakers.

Then on the left, you’ll find the volume rocker, the SIM card and the SD card slot, while on the right you’ll find the power button.

.

Display

Flipping over to the front, you’ll find a 6.43-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, so no 90Hz refresh rate over here, so keep that in mind.

However, the screen quality does look really nice and has an impressive 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. There’s the in-display fingerprint sensor at the bottom, which unlocks quickly, which has a sort of animation, so it does seem slower but it was pretty quick for me.

And 16MP punch-hole selfie camera on the top left of the display.

What’s cool about the display is the integration of All-day AI Eye Care which features AI Smart Backlight and DC Dimming.

AI Smart Backlight intelligently adjusts the level of backlight depending on ambient lighting conditions. DC Dimming, on the other hand, alters screen brightness to reduce on-screen flickering and prevents eye strain in different lighting conditions.

So overall, I would say that the phone’s screen quality would be one of the biggest pluses of the phone, even though it doesn’t typically come with a higher refresh rate.

.

Cameras

As for the phone’s cameras, the triple camera setup consists of a 48-megapixel F 1.7 main camera, 2-megapixel F 2.4 macro camera, and a 2-megapixel F 2.4 depth camera.

I have to admit as a fan of an ultrawide lens, I was a little bummed that it was not there but based on my quick test shots, the images did turn out very great.

On the video front, the rear cameras are capable of 1080p 30 frames per second video, or 720p with EIS or Steady Video at 30 frames per second. You can also shoot 720p slow-mo video at 120 frames per second as well.

Then as for the front camera, it comes with a 16-megapixel F 2.4 selfie shooter, which of course features OPPO’s AI Beautification and the Night Mode features as well.

And based on some of the quick selfie shots, it looked nice, with great skin tones, but the portrait selfie had just decent edge detection.

But I shall take even more photos and videos in my full review. If you want me to take even more “sexy selfies” and test the other camera features, do drop your comments in the comments section below!

Hardware Specs

In terms of internal specs, the OPPO A95 doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a very good mid-range phone.

It packs an energy-efficient Snapdragon 662 processor with a generous 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That’s more RAM than on some modern-day laptops! Oh, in case you need more RAM, this phone supports up to 5GB more via the virtual RAM expansion feature.

As mentioned earlier, this phone packs a large 5,000mAh battery that should keep you going for more than a day.

If the battery does run low, you can quickly charge up with the 33-watt Flash Charger. OPPO says with just 5 minutes of charging, you’ll be able to make more than 5.73 hours of voice calls or enjoy almost 2 hours of YouTube. However, this phone does not feature wireless charging, but that’s to be expected of a phone in this range.

But of course, I can’t wait to put this phone through a detailed usage test. Do look out for my full review soon!

.

Software

In the software department, the A95 runs ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11. ColorOS has always been one of the smoothest, better-looking Android implementations out there. The new iteration has even better multi-tasking capabilities and safety features.

.

Pricing and availability

At the time of publishing this video, there has yet to be any official pricing nor availability details of the A95 in Malaysia. Be sure to stay tuned as I will post this information up as soon as I have that.
