ROG Phone 8 Series Officially Revealed – Coming To Malaysia Soon

ASUS has unveiled the latest iteration of  their popular gaming smartphone line, the ROG Phone 8 Series. The new ROG Phones features a revamped design language which corroborates with the previous leaks we saw before.

ROG Phone 8 Series is coming

As mentioned above, the new ROG Phones moves away from the previous gamer-focused design. The line now has a more mainstream look that’s sprinkled with gamer-esque design cues. Furthermore, the ROG Phone 8 Series comes equipped with a 6.78-inch flexible AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate that goes up to 165Hz. To save power, the system can automatically modify the refresh rate starting at 1120Hz based on the task at hand.

As for the internals, the new ROG Phones has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC paired up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM. There’s also up to 1TB UFS 4.0 storage onboard. To combat the heat generated during intense gaming sessions, the new ROG Phones packs a Rapid-Cooling Conductor design that’s part of the GameCool 8 thermal design. The way they do it is by pulling heat away from the processor and channels it the phone’s back cover. Additionally, the new AeroActive Cooler X is 29% smaller, yet delivers 1.2X higher thermal efficiency, lowering the back cover temperature by up to 26°C.

Moreover, the ROG Phone 8 Series touts a triple camera setup. The main camera is a 50MP camera using an unspecified Sony image sensor with 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 3.0. This allows for smoother video and shake-free photography. There’s also a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 3X telephoto camera. This is the first time that ASUS has included a telephoto camera in the ROG Phone line. What’s more, there’s a 32MP ultrawide selfie camera with a 90° FOV, a bump over the last generation’s 73°. It is also housed in a cutout on the display’s screen, a first in the series.

AI is here

The ROG Phone 8 also comes with a plethora of AI-powered features. These range from the Background Mode that can easily move games to the background to X Capture for easy in-game screen grabs. There’s also the AI Grabber feature that can easily record text and X Sense that provides tips and tricks to gamers via AI Pattern Recognition technology. There are also other AI features included with the devices to bump up the overall user experience.

The hallmark of the ROG Phone series makes a return here with the Aura RGB Lighting logo on the ROG Phone 8. Whereeas the 8 Pro and Pro Edition gets the Anime Vision Mini-LED display. The Anime Vision Mini-LED display is a 341-element display and can showcase preset or user-created animations. Another popular feature making its return are the AirTrigger capacitive shpulder buttons.

Price and availability

The retail prices for the new gaming smartphones have yet to be revealed at the time of writing. ASUS has confirmed, however, that the ROG Phone 8 Series will launch in Malaysia this 30th of January. Until then, stay tuned to us at Adam Lobo TV.
