Fresh from the Samsung Unpacked announcement, we have the new mid-range phone in the Samsung line up, the Galaxy A80.
Starting with the camera (let’s be honest, what we really want to see), we get a fairly good array of cameras for 2019. The main shooter is a 48MP lens with an f2.0 aperture with a secondary Ultra Wide 8MP lens with an f2.2 aperture. We also get a 3D Depth sensor for those amazing Portrait Mode shots. What makes the camera on the Galaxy A80 unique is that it also doubles as the front facing cameras. That’s right! It pops up and rotates for those selfie shots & video calls. We’ll get more into this in our full review.
The display is a 6.7” Full HD+ (1080×2400) Super AMOLED panel featuring the new Infinity Display with a notchless design and slim bezels. The A80 is powered by an Octa Core CPU clocked in at 2.2 GHz for two bigger cores and 1.7GHz for the six smaller cores. Paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, the A80 makes for a real contender in the mid-range line of phones. The 3700mAh battery coupled with Samsung’s Super Fast Charging should also help the phone keep up with you. The A80 also features an in-screen fingerprint sensor however the headphone jack and SD Card expansion slot is absent from this device. The Galaxy A80 comes in three colours which are Ghost White, Angel Gold, and Phantom Black.
Update:
The Galaxy A80 is one of the first devices to embrace Samsung’s new “Era of Live” theme. It sure does pack features that enhances just the right things.
For the smartphone photographers, the 48MP lens shoots vivid pictures in day and night. The Ultra Wide lens is designed to give the same viewing angle as the human eye and the 3D Depth Camera offers Live Focus capabilities. For you audiophiles, you’d be happy to know that there is Dolby Audio present on the device. This is available through earphones and Bluetooth speakers.
Samsung included an AI powered performance optimizer in the software to maximize battery life based on your personal usage of the device. You can also expect Bixby and Knox to be present on the device. We get Android 9.0 Pie running the show in the background.
