Selangor Red Giants Slay Dragons, Claim Historic MSC Victory

The Selangor Red Giants etched their names in Malaysian esports history, becoming the first team from the nation to conquer a major Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) title. Their triumph unfolded at the Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Selangor Red Giants crowned champions of MSC

In a nail-biting best-of-seven final, the Red Giants defied expectations by defeating the reigning world champions, Falcons AP.Bren of the Philippines, with a score of 4-3. The series went down to the wire, showcasing the resilience of the Malaysian squad.

This victory wasn’t just about glory; it came with a hefty reward. The Red Giants secured a cool USD1million (RM4.66 million) for their championship run, while AP.Bren walked away with USD500,000 (RM2.33 million).

The mastermind behind the Red Giants’ dominance was their young jungler, Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, better known by his in-game alias, Sekysss. His exceptional performance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title for the finals.

Still basking in the afterglow of victory, Sekysss expressed his disbelief. “This feels surreal,” he remarked during the post-match interview. “This is my first international tournament, and here we are, champions!”

He also took a moment to address the doubters: “We silenced those naysayers who predicted a 4-0 defeat to AP.Bren. Thank you to all the Malaysian fans who believed in us!”

The Red Giants’ journey to the finals wasn’t without its challenges. They had to overcome NIP Flash (Singapore) with a clean 3-0 sweep in the semifinals, while AP.Bren secured their spot by defeating Liquid Echo (Netherlands) 3-1.

With a total prize pool of USD3 million (RM14.1 million), the MSC 2024 was a testament to the growing prominence of esports on the global stage. The Red Giants’ triumph not only serves as a personal victory but also marks a significant milestone for Malaysian esports.
