Snapdragon 8s Elite Leaks Reveal Core Configuration and Performance Targets

Recent leaks have shed light on the specifications of Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset, revealing a notable departure from earlier expectations. Contrary to initial speculation, the new chip will not feature the custom Oryon cores, instead relying on a more traditional Arm-based architecture.

Snapdragon 8s Elite Core Configuration and Manufacturing

According to the leaked details, the Snapdragon 8s Elite will be manufactured using a 4nm process. The core configuration is as follows:

  • One Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at up to 3.21 GHz.
  • Three Cortex-A720 cores, with some clocked up to 3.01 GHz and others at 2.8 GHz.
  • Two Cortex-A520 cores boosting up to 2.02 GHz.

Graphics processing will be handled by the Adreno 825 GPU.

Performance Expectations

Performance-wise, the 8s Elite is projected to achieve an impressive AnTuTu score of approximately two million points. This positions the chip as a high-performance solution, albeit potentially below the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen series.

The absence of Oryon cores is, therefore, a significant point of interest. Qualcomm’s Oryon CPUs, which are based on technology acquired from Nuvia, were initially anticipated to provide a substantial performance boost. However, the shift to a more conventional Arm core setup suggests a potential focus on optimising existing architectures for efficiency and cost-effectiveness instead.

The Snapdragon 8s Elite is expected to target high-end devices, potentially bridging the gap between flagship and upper-mid-range smartphones. Its performance figures indicate it will be more than capable of handling demanding tasks, including gaming and content creation.

The chip’s 4nm process should also contribute to improved power efficiency, leading to longer battery life in devices that utilise it. The Adreno 825 GPU promises to deliver a smooth and immersive graphics experience.
