Starlink Launches Affordable “Residential Lite” Plan in Malaysia, Widening Access to Satellite Internet
Starlink has officially introduced a new “Residential Lite” plan in Malaysia, making its high-speed satellite internet service more accessible to a broader range of users. The announcement, reported by Heirul Kamel, indicates a strategic move to capture a larger segment of the Malaysian market with a more budget-friendly option.
The new Residential Lite plan is priced at RM129 per month, a substantial reduction from the standard Residential plan’s RM220 monthly fee. While more affordable, the Lite plan offers download speeds ranging from 45Mbps to 130Mbps and upload speeds between 10Mbps and 20Mbps. Crucially, Starlink confirms that, like its standard offering, the Lite plan comes with no data or speed caps, ensuring consistent performance within its specified range.
Hardware Kit Remains a Prerequisite
Prospective users will still need to purchase the Starlink Standard V4 hardware kit, which costs RM1,600. The kit is available directly from the official Starlink website and through authorized Malaysian dealers such as Redtone, MEASAT, SenHeng, and TMT.
Flexible Upgrade Options
The new tier offers individuals and households a more affordable way to access reliable internet connectivity, especially in areas with limited or no traditional broadband infrastructure.
Starlink has confirmed that, in addition, Residential Lite users have the flexibility to upgrade to the standard plan at any time. Furthermore, the process for upgrading is straightforward, requiring users to simply log into their Starlink account online or via the mobile app to manage their subscription.
