Is Valve gearing up for a new Steam Controller 2 and VR Headset release?
Recent datamining by industry insider Brad Lynch suggests that Valve may be working on not one, but two exciting new hardware projects: a new Steam Controller 2 and a standalone VR headset.
Months ago, I was told that a Valve controller codenamed “Roy” existed and seemed to be far along in productization
It was separate to the spiritual successor to the Steam Controller I was ALSO told was in EV1 stage at the time

Codenamed “Ibex,” the Steam Controller 2 is reportedly in the later stages of production. Details are still scarce. However, this potential new controller might bring a significant upgrade over its predecessor. It could address previous shortcomings while incorporating the latest technologies.
The standalone VR headset, codenamed “Deckard,” is also making progress. This device is expected to be paired with new motion controllers, codenamed “Roy.” These controllers are rumoured to have a standard button layout. This includes a D-pad, bumpers, and grip buttons. They are also said to feature triggers, ABXY buttons, and a system button. Additionally, they may come with some sort of strap.
While Valve has yet to officially announce these projects, Lynch’s track record and the increasing evidence point to a potential hardware release in the near future. Many gamers and VR enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the possibility of a high-resolution VR headset from Valve, especially given the company’s history of innovative hardware and software.
