WhatsApp Now Has Voice Message Transcription
WhatsApp has announced a new feature that aims to enhance user experience and accessibility: voice message transcriptions. This innovative feature allows users to convert voice messages into text, making it easier to read and understand messages, especially in noisy environments or when multitasking.
Privacy-First Approach
WhatsApp has prioritised user privacy with this feature. Voice message transcriptions are processed locally on the user’s device, ensuring that no one, including WhatsApp itself, can access the audio or text content of the messages. This commitment to privacy aligns with WhatsApp’s broader mission to provide secure and private communication.
How it Works
To enable voice message transcriptions, users can simply go to Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts. From there, they can easily turn the feature on or off and select their preferred language for transcription. To transcribe a specific voice message, users can long-press on the message and tap “Transcribe.”
Global Rollout and Future Plans
WhatsApp is rolling out voice message transcriptions globally in the coming weeks, initially supporting a select few languages. However, the company plans to expand language support in the months to come.
