- Samsungs New Exynos Chip Set To Bring New Features
In 2019, Samsung annoucned a partnership with AMD to bring what they called a next-gen GPU to mobile gaming and it looks like we might finally see the result of this partnership.
During the virtual Computex 2021 conference, CEO of AMD Dr, Lisa Su teased a few details about the Exynos mobile SoC with AMD graphics. She said “AMD is partnering with Samsung on its next-generation Exynos SoC, which will feature custom AMD RDNA 2 architecture-based graphics IP that brings ray tracing and variable rate shading capabilities to flagship mobile devices”.
She also announced that there will be a new 5G chipset later this year with Samsung set to share details about it soon. This indicates that Samsung might announce the follow up to the Exynos 2100 within this year. This also indicates that the new AMD powered chip might be the chip powering the new Galaxy S series flagships in 2022. This chip is also set to come with the AMD mobile GPU
It’s too soon to say if the AMD GPU will bring about a big boost to the Exynos platform. However, graphics performance has always been a weak point for Samsung’s chips and we hope to see an improvement with the new partnership in place.
2. New Intel 11th Gen Processors Brings 5GHz Speeds to Thin Laptops
In May earlier this year, Intel launched their 11th Gen Tiger Lake H-Series processors which was for more powerful laptops and at Computer 2021, they just announced the U-Series of chips which is the first 5GHz clock speed for the company’s U-Series lineup of low voltage chips. Specifically, Intel is announcing the Core i7-1195G7 — its new top of the line chip in the U-series range — and the Core i5-1155G7, which takes the crown of Intel’s most powerful Core i5-level chip, too.
These chips operate in the 12W to 28W range and are four core and eight thread configurations and they feature Intels Iris Xe integrated graphics. The Core i7 features a base clock speed of 2.5GHz with a boosted speed of 4.5GHz.
Along with the new processors, Intel has also announced its latest 5G modem solution for laptops — a new M.2 card that device makers will be able to incorporate into their designs, called the Intel 5G Solution 5000. The new modem is a collaboration between Intel, Mediatek (which is handling the modem firmware) and Fibocom (which is actually manufacturing the modules), and will offer sub-6GHz 5G support and integrated eSIM technology. Intel says that Acer, Asus, and HP will all be offering laptops combing Intel’s Tiger Lake chips and new 5G Solution 5000 cards later this year.
3. Honor 50 Set To Launch Honor 50 Series
In 2020, after the US sanctions became too much for Huawei, the company ended up selling their sub-brand Honor and the now independent brand seem to be finally back up on their feet with their new Honor 50 Series on June 16th.
The company confirmed on Weibo that the new series will launch on June 16th and also posted a teaser video that shows off the device a little. The video shows us the colour of the smartphone as well as a glimpse of the camera housing. The color scheme looks particularly dazzling, consisting of blue with green flecks of some kind. So those looking for a departure from the usual black, gray, and rose gold colorways might want to keep an eye on this one.
Rumour has it that this new Honor 50 series is set to feature a Snapdragon processor, a departure from the Kirin chipsets the Honor devices usually use. The Honor 50 series might feature a Snapdragon 778G which is a chip that is significantly more powerful than the Snapdragon 765G SoC. The Honor Magic Series on the other hand is set to feature “the most premium” Snapdragon processor, presumably the Snapdragon 888 Honor announced. The specs of the Honor 50 Series and the Honor Magic Series is unknown at this point but June 16th is not too far away and we should know more then.
