TikTok Prepares To Release A New Rival To Instagram, Likely Named TikTok Notes

TikTok is taking aim at Instagram’s dominance in the photo-sharing space with a new app in development, most likely named TikTok Notes according to user reports and screenshots.

TikTok Notes: Direct competitor to Instagram?

The news comes as TikTok users receive pop-up notifications about the upcoming app, offering them the option to include their existing photo posts on the new platform.

While not yet available, TikTok confirmed the app’s development, stating their commitment to “empowering the community to create and share” through photos and text in a dedicated space.

Further evidence for the app’s existence includes a placeholder image discovered on a TikTok-owned URL mentioning “TikTok Notes,” and code found within the TikTok app hinting at a “TikTok Photos” project.

This move highlights the fierce competition between TikTok and Meta (formerly Facebook) for social media dominance. While TikTok ventures into photo-sharing, Meta has recently introduced a vertical video player for Facebook, mirroring TikTok’s signature format.

TikTok itself is no stranger to experimentation, having explored longer video formats (30 minutes) and even text-based features like X and Threads.

This upcoming photo-sharing app is another step in TikTok’s strategy to become a one-stop shop for all things social media, potentially giving users a reason to choose TikTok over Instagram for their photo-sharing needs.
