(article continues after the video)

Specs

The OPPO Reno5 5G comes with the Snapdragon 765G Chipset here in Malaysia, with the Adreno 620 GPU. The variant that I have is the 8 gigs of RAM with 128 gigs of storage.

It comes shipped with Android 11 with the latest Color OS version 11.1.

Also, just to let you all know that there is another OPPO Reno5 Pro variant which comes with MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ Chipset, which is the first smartphone in Malaysia to have that, which comes with a massive 12 gigs of RAM and 256 gigs of storage as well.

Colours & Types / Variants

As for the colour options, here in Malaysia, specifically for this Reno5 variant, there are 2 colours for you guys to choose from, there is the Galactic Silver and also Starry Black.

Build Quality

Looking from the design and built during my usage, I was using the Galactic Silver as my daily smartphone and I kind of prefer it more compared to the Starry Black as I not only loved the very unique colour, but also the matte finish had a nice textured feel when I was holding the phone and I loved the super thin form factor at 7.9mm.

So yes, this also meant that I had no anxiety of dropping the phone as I even rocked the phone without the clear phone case inside of the box.

Looking in front, it has a flat-screen display as mid-range smartphones usually do and since the screen is OLED it comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor which unlocks decently quick.

As for the ports and buttons looking down below, there is the headphones jack, the USB-C port and the mono-firing speaker.

On the left, there is the volume rockers and the SIM ejector slot, which surprisingly doesn’t come with a microSD card slot expansion so keep that in mind. On the right, there is the power button, with a nice little green line on the button as well.

Display

As for the screen, the Reno5 comes with a 6.43-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a refresh rate up to 90Hz.

The peak brightness is at 750 nits and 600 nits on typical sunlight. For me, it was very useable especially when I was taking photos during really bright daylight during my field test.

And consuming videos on YouTube and Netflix was great especially with the Netflix HD certification with great colour reproduction on the overall images on video.

Camera Specs Back / Front Image Quality

Looking at the phone’s cameras, it comes with:

  • a 64-megapixel f 1.7 wide lens
  • an 8-megapixel f 2.2 ultra-wide angle lens
  • a 2-megapixel f 2.4 macro lens, and
  • a 2-megapixel mono lens

I have done an extensive test during my previous video of this phone, do check it out!

Key Camera Function & Features:

  • AI Highlight Portrait
  • Dual View Video
  • Ultra-Steady
  • Image Clear Engine ICE
  • Night Flare Portrait

Sound Quality

As for the phone’s sound quality, it comes with a mono-firing speaker down below as mentioned earlier, where the overall sound projection in terms of the volume was pretty decently loud to my pleasant surprise, the overall highs and mids was very nice with a decent amount of bass as well.

Software

In terms of the software, it is shipped with Android 11, with ColorOS version 11.1, where OPPO keeps on coming with great iterations of their ColorOS skin where there are great features like FlexDrop, where it gives you the option to have a floating or mini window for easier multitasking.

And the Side Bar feature was also neat where other than using 3 fingers to take a screenshot, you can also take screen recording through there.

There is also a customizable Always On Display and customizable dark mode which was also extra sweet

So yes, overall it was indeed a great software experience when using the phone daily.

Battery Life

Now on to the phone’s battery, the phone comes with 4300 milliamps of battery and using the phone daily got me an average of 5 hours and 10 minutes of the screen on time when I was at 10% battery with the automatic brightness and dark mode turned on, with me shooting my Instagram stories videos, taking photos and watching videos, so expect more battery if you don’t use the phone as how “extreme” I use the phone daily.

The phone also comes with a 65 watts SuperVOOC 2.0 Fast Charging, where OPPO has very kindly included the 65 watts charger inside of the box, yeap, we have to start appreciating this a bit more now.

And with that you can get close to 25 percent of a mere 5 minutes of charge, 15 minutes gives you up to 60 percent and 100 percent only at 35 minutes of charge! NICE!

There is no wireless charging option but there is the reverse wireless charging, which was really great to know.

Gaming

In terms of gaming, there is a Gamer Mode which can temporarily tune out interruptions during gameplay.

Playing PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 was great, with very responsive movements within gameplay as well.

On PUBG Mobile, the game ran smoothly at graphics set to HD and frame rate set to High and with just very minor warmth towards the top part of the phone only when having hours of gameplay.

Conclusion

So, in conclusion, the OPPO again proves that it is possible to pack more features for a smartphone within this midrange market as it is a phone which has many amazing AI camera features. For those of you who just want to take a picture and post it up immediately on your social media platforms without taking so much time after taking a shot.

The battery life on the smartphone was extremely good for its overall size of the battery and coupled with the 65 Watt SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging it surely has the best battery option to get you up and going really quick about close to 4 hours of battery with a mere 4 minutes of charge.

And finally, the price that OPPO offers for the phone makes this phone a very appealing choice as the phone comes with a price of only RM1,899 for this 8 gigs of RAM with 128 gigs of storage, making it a no-brainer for you to get the phone if you have a budget of RM2,000 and below.

All right guys, with this, do let me know what you guys think of the OPPO Reno5 down at the comments section below, would you get it?
