Xiaomi’s Mi Mix line of smartphones have been known to push the boundaries in smartphone technology and design. Now, its latest Mi Mix Alpha has done it again by incorporating a 7.92-inch OLED display that offers an impressive 180.6%% screen-to-body ratio.
Opting to forgo any moving parts ala the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X, that has a single display that cascades off the side of the phone and around to the back.
While it is true that the sides are touch-sensitive like the rest of the display, Xiaomi claims that it utilizes multiple sensors and AI algorithms to avoid accidental button presses.
It also claims that the display on the side would be able to dynamically present information like calls and messages by glowing
That all sounds like sorcery at this point but it very much has 2019 flagship specs such as a Qualcomm Snapgdragon 855+ processor paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.
To help power its massive display it has a 4,000mAh battery that also supports 40W wireless fast charging.
Xiaomi is also going all out on the camera department by offering a 108-Megapixel camera with a wide f/1.69 aperture, that uses Samsung’s latest 1/1.33” sensor. That main camera is complemented by a 20-Megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a 12-Megapixel f/2.0 telephoto camera that offers 2X optical zoom.
Now interestingly, as the display wraps around the device, it forgoes the usual front selfie camera and uses the display on the back to help frame selfie photos.
Given, all these ultra high specifications are wrapped into one neat package, you can expect the Mi Mix Alpha to carry a hefty price tag that is north of your average foldable phone.
According to Xiaomi, the Mi Mix Alpha is slated to be its most expensive smartphone to date with an eye watering retail price of 19,999RMB or about RM11,762 which is more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X.
Given that is a this is a limited edition smartphone, expect to be extremely hard to come by.
