If you have a Xiaomi smartphone, boy do we have good news for you. It turns out that 11 models have been confirmed to enjoy the upcoming Android Q update.
Why is this news you may ask? Well, it mainly has to do with the fact that Android updates are pretty hit and miss on majority of manufacturers. This is due to the fact that companies aren’t always diligent in updating their older devices with the latest version of Android.
So far Xiaomi has confirmed that the following models will be receiving Android Q.
– Xiaomi Mi 9
– Xiaomi Mi 9 SE
– Redmi K20 Pro
– Xiaomi Mi 8
– Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
– Xiaomi Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition
– Redmi K20
– Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
– Mi Mix 2S
– Redmi Note 7
– Redmi Note 7 Pro
It is quite a list really and most of these phones were running Android 9.0 out of the bow with the exception of the Mi 8 series, Mi Mix 2S and Mi Mix 3 which came with the older Android 8.1 OS.
There is however, a difference in the timing of the updates to the phones. So far Xiaomi has confirmed that the flagships in the list will receive the Android Q update by the fourth quarter of this year whereas mid-range offerings like the Redmi K20 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 will receive the update sometime in the first quarter of 2020.
It is a given fact that Xiaomi will overlay its MIUI skin on top of the latest version of Android with some enhancements as well as other customisations.
Also it is interesting to note that older Xiaomi phones under the Android One programme will also get Android Q updates as well though there is no indication as to when it will be available on those phones.
