ASUS is gearing up to announce the ROG Phone 8, the newest entry in their gaming smartphone series during CES 2024 this January along with a few more products. It seems though, as we’re merely a few weeks away from its official release, a fresh batch of leaks have emerged that allegedly shows us a clear look at the upcoming ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro. These leaks come to us courtesy of Windows Report that showcases the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro’s design via official-looking renders as well as detailed list of the devices’ specifications.
ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro leaked
Right off the bat we see that the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro sports a much different style as compared to the previous entries. The new devices seems to feature a flatter and more sleek design language, with the loud and bold gamer-esque design that were proudly prevalent in previous entries toned down. This is likely a conscious decision by ASUS in order to reach a much wider audience rather than just gamers. There also seems to be slightly different finishes as well with a matte finish for the regular ROG Phone 8 and glossier finish for the 8 Pro. The signature AirTriggers makes a return as well as the light-up RGB ROG logo.
Both devices house a triple camera setup that boasts a Sony IMX890 50MP main sensor, 13 MP ultrawide, 32MP third camera with 3X optical zoom. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera housed in a punch hole cutout at the top of the screen. This is a first for the series as previous entries always featured the selfie camera at the top of the device away from the screen. The shrinking of the ROG Phone 8 Series’ bezels further indicates a move towards a more conventional design for the masses. The aforementioned screen is a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with up to 165Hz refresh rate and features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Other specs allegedly included with the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro are as follows:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset
- 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage for the ROG Phone 8
- 16GB/24GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB/1TB UFS 4.0 storage for the ROG Phone 8 Pro
- IP68 water resistance rating
- 3.5mm audio jack
- 5,500mAh with Quick Charge 5.0 and PD Charging
The leaks also reveal that a fast charger will be included in-box as well as the AeroActive Cooler X which can also double as a phone stand. There’s also a few accessories that comes namely the DEVILCASE Guardian, a phone case that users can use that won’t cover up the RGB ROG logo as the case comes with a transparent back and is able to support the AeroActive Cooler X.
While the leaks look pretty believable, it is still wise to take all this with a pinch of salt as they are pretty much unconfirmed information anyway. We’ll all know how true these are during the official release at CES 2024 come January.
