Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Rumoured to Controversially Remove the S Pen in Place of Qi2 Magnets

Galaxy S26 Ultra Rumoured to Embrace Qi2 Magnets, Potentially Reshaping S Pen Technology

New whispers online suggest a significant shift for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. According to a recent rumour, the company might be considering a radical change to its long-standing S Pen technology, potentially removing the traditional digitiser in favour of integrating Qi2 magnetic charging capabilities directly into the device.

The S Pen Digitiser: A Potential Departure

The rumour, originating from @PandaFlashPro on Twitter/X, indicates that Samsung could equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra with an alternative S Pen method, moving away from the digitiser technology that has been a staple of the Ultra series for years. This change, if true, could free up valuable internal space within the smartphone.

Making Way for Qi2 Magnetic Charging

One compelling theory presented by @PandaFlashPro is that this newfound internal real estate could be allocated to magnets, making the Galaxy S26 Ultra fully compatible with the Qi2 wireless charging standard. While “Qi2 Ready” promises have been seen before, often referring only to magnetic case compatibility, this rumour points towards a complete standard adoption with magnets seamlessly integrated into the phone’s rear panel, akin to Apple’s MagSafe system.

Other Potential Design Implications

Another potential implication of removing the S Pen digitiser is the possibility of a thinner device. However, achieving a noticeably slimmer profile would likely require a comprehensive redesign beyond just the digitiser’s absence. Nonetheless, the removal of this older technology opens up new avenues for design and functionality.
