vivo X Fold 5 Unfolds: World’s Lightest Foldable Debuts with Premium Specs
Following a series of teasers, vivo has officially launched the vivo X Fold 5, its latest booklet-type foldable smartphone, setting new benchmarks in the premium foldable segment. The device emphasises a lightweight design, robust durability, and advanced imaging capabilities.
Marketed as the world’s lightest large-format foldable phone, the vivo X Fold 5 weighs a mere 217g in its Titanium finish. It is also available in Clear White and Pine Green. Durability is a key focus, with a reengineered hinge constructed from FS55 high-strength steel and carbon fibre. vivo asserts the X Fold 5 is the first foldable to achieve IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ water resistance ratings, capable of withstanding 80 degrees Celsius water and high-pressure jets, alongside an IP5X dust resistance rating.
Display and Performance
The vivo X Fold 5 features an expansive 8.03-inch inner AMOLED display, boasting a 2K+ resolution of 2480×2200 pixels, an adaptive LTPO refresh rate ranging from 1-120Hz, and a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. The external cover screen is a 6.53-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel, offering the same 120Hz refresh rate and brightness. Both displays support 10.7 billion colours, Dolby Vision, and high-frequency PWM dimming to enhance eye comfort. The inner screen is safeguarded by UTG glass, while the outer display utilises second-generation Armor Glass for superior protection.
Under the hood, the X Fold 5 is powered by a 3.3GHz 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It comes with configurations offering up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring smooth performance and ample space.
Battery and Charging
A notable feature is the 6,000mAh Blue Ocean battery, co-developed with CATL. This battery incorporates 4th-gen silicon anode material and 2nd-gen semi-solid-state battery technology, achieving an impressive energy density of 866Wh/L and retaining functionality in extreme temperatures as low as −30 degrees Celsius. Charging options include 80W wired fast charging, 40W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.
Camera System
For photography enthusiasts, the vivo X Fold 5 is equipped with a sophisticated triple-camera setup on the rear: a 50MP Sony IMX921 main sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP IMX882 3x periscope telephoto sensor offering up to 100x digital zoom. ZEISS optics and software enhancements provide professional-grade portrait modes, macro capabilities, and improved low-light performance. Both the inner and outer displays house 20MP front-facing cameras for high-quality selfies and video calls.
Additional Features and OS
The device also includes dual stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options are comprehensive, featuring WiFi 6, 5G, 4G, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS with NavIC support, NFC, and dual SIM capabilities.
Running on Android 15 with vivo’s OriginOS 5 skin, the X Fold 5 introduces “Atomic Workbench,” a productivity-focused feature supporting up to five simultaneous applications in split-screen mode with drag-and-drop functionality. Additionally, it offers integration with Apple devices, enabling compatibility with AirPods, Apple Watch (Series 6 and later), and Mac for file management, including drag-and-drop and screen extension.
Pricing and Availability
The vivo X Fold 5 is currently available for pre-order in China, with sales commencing on 2nd July. Pricing is as follows:

- vivo X Fold 5 12GB/512GB: CNY 7,999 (around RM4,719)

Vivo has not yet announced international availability for the X Fold 5.
