Apple Poised to Unveil Low-Cost MacBook Powered by iPhone Chip, Analyst Reports

Apple is reportedly planning a significant expansion of its MacBook lineup with the introduction of a new, more affordable model powered by an iPhone chip. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed the details in a recent post, suggesting this move could dramatically increase MacBook sales.

The anticipated device will feature a 13-inch display and be equipped with the A18 Pro chip, which debuted in last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. This marks a notable departure for Apple, as all previous Apple silicon Macs have utilised the higher-performance M-series chips, known for their superior core counts, greater memory support, and enhanced external display capabilities.

Targeted Launch and Sales Projections

According to Kuo, this budget-friendly MacBook is expected to enter mass production in late Q4 2025 or early Q1 2026, pointing to a launch in the first half of next year. Apple reportedly aims for this new model to account for a substantial 20-28% of total MacBook sales in the coming year, indicating a strategic push for a broader market reach and a potential return to previous high shipment volumes.

Internal Confirmation and Design Details

Evidence of such a device, internally identified as “Mac17,1,” was first uncovered by MacRumors in backend code related to Apple Intelligence last summer, with subsequent confirmation of its A18 Pro chip integration.

Beyond its unique internal architecture, the new MacBook is rumoured to come in a vibrant array of colours, including Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow finishes, mirroring the design approach seen in some of Apple’s other consumer-focused products.

Chinese technology company Everwin Precision is slated to play a crucial role in the production of this new MacBook, serving as a key supplier for its casings.
