Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, Boosting Mid-Range Mobile Experience
Qualcomm has officially announced the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, the latest addition to its portfolio of mobile chipsets, designed to power the next generation of mid-range smartphones. The new platform promises incremental but meaningful upgrades in performance, display, and imaging capabilities, building upon the foundation of its predecessor.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 delivers a seven percent performance boost for both its Adreno GPU and Kryo CPU, providing a noticeable improvement in overall responsiveness and gaming. The Kryo CPU features a 1+3+4 core architecture. The 1x Prime Cortex-A720 core is now clocked at 2.7 GHz, a step up from the 2.5 GHz maximum of the previous generation, while the 3x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4 GHz and 4x Cortex-A520 modules at 1.8 GHz remain unchanged. The new chip also gets an updated Adreno GPU, which Qualcomm claims offers a 7% boost compared to its predecessor. It also brings Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution.
A key focus of the new platform is enhanced multimedia and AI experiences. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 now supports ultra-wide displays with resolutions up to 2,900 x 1,300 and refresh rates of up to 144Hz, enabling smoother visuals for gaming and everyday use. The updated Spectra ISP can handle 200MP sensors and 4K video @ 30 fps, including Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), HDR10, and HDR10+ formats. Additionally, the updated Hexagon NPU offers better AI performance with support for on-device large language models like Llama 1B and Qwen 1B, as well as real-time translation and transcription.
Beyond these upgrades, the new chipset retains several of the advanced capabilities found in its predecessor, including support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ charging tech. The chip features LPDDR5 RAM at 3,200 MHz and UFS 3.1 storage. On the connectivity side, the new 7s Gen 4 chip supports sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. It also brings support for the aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive audio codecs.
While Qualcomm has yet to disclose which smartphone manufacturers will be the first to adopt the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, the chipset is expected to be featured in new mid-range devices later this year. The platform’s balance of improved performance and advanced features is poised to bring flagship-level experiences to a wider range of consumers.
