Pixelsnap: Google’s Magnetic Accessory Ecosystem
Following the introduction of Apple’s magnetic accessory system, Google has unveiled its own solution, Pixelsnap. This technology is a significant new feature integrated into the new Pixel 10 smartphone lineup. It seems Google decided it was time to get in on the magnetic action.
Pixelsnap is built upon the open Qi2 wireless charging standard, which incorporates magnetic components to ensure precise alignment between a device and a wireless charger. This integration aims to provide a reliable and consistent connection for both charging and accessory attachment, eliminating the need for manual adjustment to find the optimal charging position.
The Pixelsnap ecosystem includes a range of first-party accessories developed by Google. The official Pixelsnap wireless charger offers charging speeds of up to 25W for the top-tier Pixel 10 Pro XL, and up to 15W for other Qi2-certified devices, including the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro. A version with a detachable stand is also available, providing a stable dock for the phone while charging. For hands-free viewing, the Pixelsnap Ring Stand can be magnetically attached to the back of the phone. Additionally, a series of official Pixelsnap-compatible phone cases has been released.
Google has also confirmed that third-party manufacturers are already developing accessories for the platform, which is expected to expand the range of available products, including wallets, car mounts, and grips. The Qi2 foundation of this technology is also designed for compatibility with many existing magnetic accessories.
The Malaysian pricing for the new accessories is as follows: the wireless charger is priced at RM219, while the version with a stand is RM339. The Ring Stand is available for RM149, and the official phone cases begin at RM239.
