Creative Cloud in Your Pocket: Adobe Premiere Arrives on iPhone
Adobe has launched a new version of its video editing software, Adobe Premiere, for the iPhone, making the core application available for free. The release positions Adobe to compete with a growing number of mobile-first editing apps, while also extending its professional toolset to mobile users.
The new application allows users to perform fundamental editing tasks, including working with multi-track timelines, adjusting colour, and mixing audio. The company states the app is designed to provide a streamlined experience optimised for touch-based controls. It also features integration with the Adobe Creative Cloud, allowing for projects to be synced between the iPhone app and the desktop version of Premiere Pro.
While the base application is free, access to advanced features, particularly those that use Adobe’s Firefly generative AI, will require a separate subscription or the use of generative credits, which are included in existing Creative Cloud plans. The move is viewed as a way for Adobe to attract a broader user base, ranging from social media content creators to hobbyists, by offering a free entry point into its ecosystem.
You can pre-order the app now on the Apple App Store, with the official launch expected on 30 September. It will be a free download, with optional in-app purchases for additional cloud storage and generative AI features.
The mobile video editing market has seen rapid growth, with many creators using apps like CapCut, Meta’s Edits and Apple’s Final Cut Pro for their mobile workflows. By offering a free version of Premiere on the iPhone, Adobe is entering this competitive space, potentially seeking to convert casual users into long-term subscribers for its paid services.
