Apple Watch SE 3 Launches With Always-On Display, New Health Features

Apple Unveils Apple Watch SE 3 with Notable Upgrades

Apple has introduced the Apple Watch SE 3, a new version of its entry-level smartwatch. The device features several new capabilities, including an always-on display, fast charging, and an updated health-tracking suite. The new model is powered by the S10 chip (the same as the Apple Watch Series 11) and is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes.

The most significant changes from the previous generation are centred on display, charging, and health. The S10 chip enables an Always-On display, allowing the time and notifications to be visible at a glance. Additionally, Apple has stated that the new model’s cover glass is four times more resistant to cracks due to a proprietary Ion-X glass. The battery life is rated at 18 hours, and the device now supports fast charging, which Apple claims can charge the watch up to two times faster than the previous model.

In terms of health, the Apple Watch SE 3 introduces several new features:

  • Sleep Score: A feature that helps users understand the quality of their sleep, providing a score and a breakdown of key components like sleep duration and consistency.
  • Wrist Temperature Sensing: This capability adds to the Vitals app, providing insights into overall well-being.
  • Retrospective Ovulation Estimates: Using wrist temperature data, the watch can estimate the likely day of ovulation.
  • Sleep Apnoea Notifications: An algorithm alerts users to consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnoea over 30 days.

The watch also incorporates features from the new watchOS 26, such as Workout Buddy, which provides personalised, spoken motivation during workouts using Apple Intelligence. Other usability enhancements include new “double tap” and “wrist flick” gestures for one-handed operation, and an improved on-device Siri that can access health data.

The Apple Watch SE 3 will be available in midnight and starlight aluminium cases, with pricing starting at RM1,049 in Malaysia. watchOS 26, which powers the new features, is compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 and later.
