YouTube Launches Multi-Language Dubbing Feature for All Creators

YouTube has officially launched its multi-language audio feature, which allows content creators to add dubbed audio tracks to their videos in different languages. The company announced the public rollout after a successful two-year pilot program and expects the feature to become available to millions of YouTubers over the coming weeks.

The feature, which was initially tested with a limited group of creators in 2023, including prominent figures like MrBeast, Mark Rober, and chef Jamie Oliver, aims to break down language barriers. Initially, creators relied on third-party services for dubbing. However, YouTube has since introduced an AI-powered auto-dubbing tool that leverages Google’s Gemini technology to accurately replicate a creator’s unique tone and emotions.

According to YouTube, the pilot phase demonstrated remarkable success. Creators who utilised multi-language audio tracks saw, on average, more than 25% of their watch time originate from viewers watching in a language different from the video’s primary language. A standout example is Jamie Oliver’s channel, which reportedly tripled its viewership after adopting the feature.

In a related development, the company has also been experimenting with multi-language thumbnails since June with a select group of creators. This complementary feature enables creators to customise thumbnails with text that automatically adjusts to match the preferred language of the viewer, further catering to an international audience.
