Apple Redefines Professional Computing with New M5-Powered iPad Pro
After seeing it leaked online a couple of weeks ago, Apple has officially unveiled its new iPad Pro, featuring the company’s next-generation M5 processor. The announcement signals a continued effort by the tech giant to position its high-end tablet as a direct competitor to traditional laptops.

At the centre of the new device is the M5 chip. According to Apple, the new silicon offers a significant performance boost over the previous M4, claiming up to 40% faster CPU speeds and a 50% increase in graphics capability. During the presentation, the company demonstrated the chip’s power by showing the iPad Pro handling tasks typically reserved for workstations, such as editing multiple streams of 8K video and rendering complex 3D models.

Beyond the processor, the new iPad Pro introduces an upgraded display, which Apple calls “Ultra-XDR.” The screen boasts a peak brightness of 1,800 nits and features ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 240Hz. The device’s exterior has also been redesigned, now using a chassis made from recycled titanium, which makes it slightly lighter and more durable than its predecessor.
Other notable hardware updates include:
- A 32-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate on-device machine learning and AI tasks within the forthcoming iPadOS 19.
- The inclusion of two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a first for the iPad lineup, enables faster data transfer and support for multiple high-resolution external monitors.
- A redesigned Magic Keyboard Folio with a function row and a larger haptic trackpad, bringing its feature set closer to that of a standard laptop keyboard.
The new iPad Pro is available for pre-order today and is scheduled to be in stores by October 24. Pricing for the 11-inch model is set to start at RM4,599, with the 13-inch model starting at RM5,999.
