iPhone Fold Rumours: 24MP Under-Display Camera and 2026 Release Target
Apple is gearing up to enter the foldable market with an “iPhone Fold” tentatively slated for a Fall 2026 release, according to multiple reports and supply-chain rumours. The device is rumoured to feature an industry-first 24-megapixel under-display camera (UDC) on its main inner screen.
The long-rumoured device, which analysts suggest could be priced near USD2,000, is described as a “book-style” foldable. It will reportedly feature a large, nearly crease-free 7.8-inch internal display, complemented by a 5.5-inch external cover screen.

The standout feature, according to a JP Morgan note, is the high-resolution 24MP under-display camera, which aims to solve the hazy and poor low-light performance that has plagued similar cameras from other manufacturers. The device is also expected to feature a punch-hole camera on its cover display.
To achieve a rumoured ultra-thin profile, Apple may be making calculated trade-offs. Reports suggest the first-generation foldable may omit features like LiDAR and optical image stabilisation (OIS). The rear camera system is expected to consist of dual 48-megapixel sensors.
In another significant design shift, the iPhone Fold will reportedly forgo Face ID in favour of Touch ID, which will be integrated into the side button for authentication.
Inside, the device is expected to run on Apple’s next-generation processors and feature an in-house modem, both aimed at maximising battery life and performance for the dual-display setup. While the current target is Fall 2026, some supply-chain sources believe the launch could slip to 2027 as Apple finalises hinge design and component maturity.
