Meta Announces Ads on Threads, Starting Early 2026
Meta has officially announced that advertisements will arrive on Threads starting in early 2026.
Following a year of steady growth, the company will begin monetising the platform with a small test group of advertisers in January, with a wider rollout planned for the coming months.

Meta framed the move as a way to help businesses reach new audiences while maintaining user experience. “We are committed to building a platform where businesses can connect with people in meaningful ways,” the company stated.
The initial phase will test ad performance within the previously ad-free feed. Formats are expected to mirror those on Instagram and Facebook, leveraging Meta’s existing infrastructure for seamless integration.
Since its 2023 launch, Threads has matured from a simple text app into a robust community. The introduction of ads signals Meta’s confidence in the platform’s viability and revenue potential.
Analysts have long viewed this as an inevitable step for Meta, known for monetising social products once they reach critical mass. With Threads now established, advertising was the expected next chapter.
