Apple Watch Gains Hypertension Notifications to Alert Users of Elevated Blood Pressure Trends
TL;DR: Apple Watch now offers hypertension notifications based on long-term trends. It’s designed for early awareness, not medical diagnosis.
Apple has rolled out hypertension notifications on Apple Watch, introducing a new health feature designed to alert users when long-term blood pressure trends indicate possible hypertension.

According to Apple, the feature analyses blood pressure data over time to identify patterns that may indicate elevated blood pressure. When such trends are detected, users receive a notification encouraging them to take informed next steps, such as consulting a healthcare professional.
Apple emphasises that hypertension notifications are not intended to provide a medical diagnosis. Instead, the feature is designed to support early awareness by highlighting changes that may otherwise go unnoticed, particularly for users who do not routinely monitor their blood pressure.
The feature builds on Apple Watch’s broader health monitoring capabilities, which already include heart rate tracking, ECG, blood oxygen monitoring, and sleep insights. By focusing on long-term trends rather than single readings, Apple says the notifications are designed to reduce false alerts while still providing meaningful health insights.
Apple also highlighted its continued focus on user privacy. Health data analysed for hypertension notifications is encrypted and processed in a way that keeps information secure and under user control.

Hypertension notifications are now available on supported Apple Watch models in select regions, starting today, with availability dependent on local regulatory approvals. Apple has not detailed plans for expansion to additional countries.
With the addition of hypertension notifications, Apple continues to position the Apple Watch as a preventative health tool, aiming to help users better understand their long-term health trends rather than react only to acute events.
In Malaysia, the feature is expected to arrive alongside Apple’s broader regional rollout, subject to local regulatory approval. Apple has not confirmed a specific release timeline for Malaysia. Hypertension notifications require a compatible Apple Watch running the latest watchOS and are supported on newer Apple Watch models, including recent Series and Ultra variants.
