“Hey Plex”: Samsung Brings Perplexity AI to Upcoming Galaxy Flagships
TL;DR: Samsung is expanding Galaxy AI into a “multi-agent ecosystem” by deeply integrating Perplexity into upcoming flagship devices. Users can activate the AI with the wake phrase “Hey Plex” or the side button to perform complex, multi-step tasks across native apps like Notes, Gallery, and Calendar without switching screens.
Samsung has announced a major expansion of its Galaxy AI platform, officially integrating Perplexity as a core, system-level AI agent on its upcoming flagship devices. This announcement confirms what we’ve been hearing these past few months concerning Samsung and Perplexity.
The move marks a strategic shift for Samsung toward a “multi-agent ecosystem.” Citing recent insights that reveal nearly 80% of users rely on more than two different types of AI agents for daily tasks, the company aims to give users more choice and flexibility directly within the device’s operating system.
“Hey Plex”: Deep System Integration

Unlike standalone AI chatbot apps, Perplexity will be baked deeply into the Galaxy framework. Users will be able to summon the new assistant using a dedicated voice wake phrase, “Hey Plex,” or by pressing and holding the side button for quick access.
Because Galaxy AI operates at the system level, Perplexity will be able to understand user context and execute actions across multiple applications seamlessly. Samsung confirmed that the agent will be embedded into select native apps, including Samsung Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar, as well as supported third-party apps.
This deep integration allows users to complete multi-step workflows without needing to manually switch back and forth between different app interfaces.
The Orchestrator Approach
By opening up Galaxy AI to third-party agents like Perplexity, Samsung is positioning its platform as a central hub for artificial intelligence.
Samsung stated that more details regarding specific supported devices and additional AI experiences will be announced soon, likely referring to its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event later this week.
