Apple’s last iteration of the iPad Air brought a design overhaul along with it and made the device look more like the iPad Pro. Now, we are already getting rumours about Apple’s plans for the tablet two years down the line.
Based on a report from The Elec, Apple is looking to unveil a 10.86-inch OLED display tablet in 2022. The report does not specify which tablet it will be but based on the screen size given, it seems likely that it might be a new iPad Air. The current iPad Air has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a class-leading mini-LED display.
The report also states that Apple might be releasing two other iPads with OLED displays in 2023, a 11-inch model and a 12.9-inch model. This certainly points towards the iPad Pro’s getting OLED displays. It’s also said that the 2023 OLED panels will be different than the 2022 iPad Air’s OLED display.
The OLED display on the 2022 tablet might be a rigid OLED panel while the one in 2023 will get a flexible OLED display. Apple has been using flexible OLED displays since the iPhone X as this allows for thinner bezels.
If this report is to be believed, this would be the first time Apple is placing an OLED panel on something other than their iPhones and Apple Watches. Apple could also offer multiple display options, allowing people to choose between OLED or mini-LED.
