Apple Launches Studio Display XDR with 2000 Nits and 120Hz
TL;DR: Apple has introduced a refreshed Studio Display and an all-new Studio Display XDR with mini-LED, 2000 nits peak HDR brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and Thunderbolt 5. Pricing in Malaysia starts at RM6,499.
Apple has announced a new Studio Display lineup, headlined by the all-new Studio Display XDR, a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR monitor designed for professional workflows.
The new range is built to pair with Mac systems and cater to everyone from everyday users to high-end creatives working in video, design, and 3D production.
Studio Display: Refined and More Connected

The updated Studio Display keeps its 27-inch 5K Retina panel with over 14 million pixels, 600 nits of brightness, and P3 wide colour support. It now adds Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, allowing for higher bandwidth accessories and daisy-chaining up to four displays.
It also features:
- 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View
- Studio-quality three-microphone array
- Six-speaker system with Spatial Audio and 30 per cent deeper bass
- Two Thunderbolt 5 ports and two USB-C ports
- Up to 96W charging through the included cable
The display is available with standard glass or optional nano-texture glass for reduced glare. Buyers can choose between a tilt-adjustable stand, a tilt-and-height-adjustable stand, or a VESA mount option.
Studio Display XDR: A New Pro Benchmark
Replacing the Pro Display XDR, the new Studio Display XDR pushes Apple’s display technology further.
It features a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR panel with a mini-LED backlight and 2,304 local dimming zones. Brightness reaches up to 1000 nits in SDR and 2000 nits peak in HDR, alongside a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The result is deeper blacks, brighter highlights, and improved control over halo and blooming effects in HDR content.
Colour support expands to include both P3 and Adobe RGB wide colour gamuts, making it more suitable as a reference display for print and video professionals. Apple says it covers over 80 per cent of Rec. 2020 for HDR workflows.
Motion performance also gets an upgrade with a 120Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync, dynamically adjusting between 47Hz and 120Hz for smoother playback and gaming.
Pro-Grade Camera, Audio and Power
Like its sibling, Studio Display XDR includes:
- 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View
- Three-mic array with directional beamforming
- Six-speaker system with Spatial Audio
- Thunderbolt 5 connectivity

It includes two Thunderbolt 5 ports and two USB-C ports, effectively acting as a hub for pro setups. Charging power reaches up to 140W, enough to fast-charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The tilt- and height-adjustable stand offers 105mm of height adjustment with a counterbalanced arm, and a VESA mount adapter is available for custom desk configurations.
