Sonos Introduces Two New Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL Speakers Focused on Expanding Its Home Audio System
TL;DR: Sonos has launched the Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL speakers, designed to make it easier to build and expand a multi-room audio system. The speakers will be available in Malaysia starting 7 April 2026, alongside special Hari Raya promotions on selected Sonos and Bowers & Wilkins products.
Sonos has unveiled two new speakers, the Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL, marking a renewed focus on strengthening the company’s multi-room audio ecosystem. The speakers are designed to make it easier for users to start building a Sonos system and expand it throughout their homes over time.
Announced in Kuala Lumpur, the new speakers arrive just ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, positioning them as a home entertainment upgrade for Malaysians preparing to host family and friends during the festive season.
According to Sonos CEO Tom Conrad, the company is returning to its core philosophy of building products that improve as users expand their system rather than replacing older devices.
“Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation,” Conrad said in a statement. “We believe a great sound experience shouldn’t reset every time you add something new. It should get better.”
Two Speakers Designed Around the Sonos Ecosystem

The two newly announced speakers serve different roles within the broader Sonos system but share the same goal of delivering room-filling sound while integrating seamlessly with other devices in the lineup.
The Sonos Play is positioned as the brand’s most versatile speaker. It can function as a traditional home speaker connected over Wi-Fi while also offering portable listening when taken outside the home.
The speaker includes up to 24 hours of battery life and an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use. It also features a removable utility loop for portability and includes a built-in power bank that can charge smartphones.

One of its standout capabilities is the ability to extend the Sonos system beyond the home network. When connected via Bluetooth, users can synchronise up to three additional Sonos Play or Move 2 speakers by pressing and holding the play button, allowing multiple speakers to play the same audio even when away from Wi-Fi.
Automatic Trueplay tuning is also included, dynamically adjusting the sound profile based on the surrounding environment.
Era 100 SL Offers a Simpler Entry into Sonos

Alongside the portable model, Sonos also introduced the Era 100 SL, a simplified version of the Era 100 designed as an entry point into the Sonos ecosystem.
The speaker features a microphone-free design, appealing to users who prefer not to use voice assistants. Despite the streamlined approach, the Era 100 SL is still capable of delivering room-filling sound on its own while serving as a building block for a larger system.

Users can pair two units for stereo sound, place speakers in different rooms for multi-room playback, or integrate them into a home theatre setup.
Chris Kallai, Sonos’ Vice President of Product Creation, said the goal was to ensure that the first speaker customers buy still feels complete even before they expand their system.
“We believe the first speaker you bring home should sound complete on its own, and become even better as your system grows,” he said.
Designed for Long-Term Use
Sonos says the new speakers were designed with long-term use in mind. The Sonos Play includes a replaceable battery and optimised power management aimed at extending the device’s lifespan.
The speakers also support a wide range of streaming services and connectivity options, including Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and the Sonos app.
As with other products in the lineup, both speakers were tuned with input from the Sonos Soundboard, a group of professionals from the music and film industries who help shape the company’s audio tuning to remain faithful to the artist’s intent.
