Samsung’s Next-Gen Foldables: Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and Galaxy Z Slide Leak
TL;DR: Samsung is reportedly developing the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 for a 2027 launch, alongside a new sliding device, the Samsung Galaxy Z Slide. Both point to continued experimentation beyond traditional foldables.
Samsung may have pulled the plug on its first double-folding phone early, but the company is already preparing its next move in the foldable space.
According to new leaks, both a successor to the TriFold and an entirely new sliding smartphone are currently in development.
Galaxy Z TriFold 2 Already in the Works

Despite discontinuing the original Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold after just a few months, the company is reportedly not giving up on the concept.
A second-generation model, widely referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2, is said to be targeting a mid-2027 launch.
One of the biggest upgrades will be its design. The new model is expected to be significantly thinner and lighter, addressing one of the main concerns with the original device.
For context, the first TriFold measured around 12.9mm when folded, while the upcoming version is rumoured to be only slightly thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, which comes in at 8.9mm folded. That’s a substantial reduction and could make the form factor far more practical.
A New Direction: Galaxy Z Slide
Beyond foldables, the company is also exploring a completely different approach.
Leaks suggest that a prototype sliding smartphone, potentially called the Samsung Galaxy Z Slide, is currently in development.
Unlike foldables that bend, this device would feature a display that expands by sliding out, offering more screen space without introducing a visible crease.
The timeline for this device is still tentative, with a possible launch window set for late 2027 or early 2028, assuming development progresses smoothly.
What This Really Means
Here’s the bigger picture. Even though the first TriFold had a short lifespan, it was never really about mass sales. It was about testing boundaries.
Now, with a thinner TriFold 2 and a potential sliding phone on the horizon, it’s clear the brand is still experimenting aggressively with new form factors.
If these devices land successfully, they could redefine what “foldable” even means over the next few years.
