Nothing Phone (4a) Pro

Nothing Phone 4a Pro

First up is the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. You get three colours for you to choose from: Black, Silver, and Pink. It has a metal unibody with completely flat sides. And while it looks and feels very premium, this is the least “Nothing” looking phone yet. Because it’s not as transparent as the other previous Nothing phones. But I do feel that it is good for this, because it feels grown up. Like the brand has finally found its identity.

But of course, the headline feature is the Glyph Matrix. A little mini circular LED display on the back of the phone that shows you notifications, timers, and more, where the customization is almost endless. It also has an IP65 splash resistance. Not full IP68 like some on this particular list, but enough to handle a bit of rain.

However, the real reason why you would buy this phone over the base (4a) is this camera setup:

  • 50MP main lens with a Sony LYT700C sensor
  • 50MP periscope telephoto lens with up to 3.5x optical zoom
  • Up to 140x digital zoom

You can go up all the way to 140x of the digital zoom. But trust me, there’s no point in going to that kind of high zoom value because the quality is not good at all.

But the periscope telephoto lens really looks amazing. And pair all of these lenses with the Fujifilm LUT emulation when you take photos using this phone, nobody would have guessed that this was taken on a smartphone for a price of only RM2,299

So yes, the overall shots are sharp. Even for an ultra wide lens, where all of the lenses’ colours look natural, not over processed, even without the LUTs being applied to the photos.

And it also comes with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 inside, which is an upper mid range chip. So it’s smooth for daily use and it handles gaming very well too.

The display is a 6.83 inch 1.5K AMOLED Flexible LTPS display, so we have very nice uniform bezels on this with a high 144Hz adaptive screen refresh rate, which is the highest refresh rate compared to others in this list. And it also comes with 5,000 nits of peak brightness, making this also the brightest display on this list as well. All of which means that this phone screen is perfectly readable at all times, whether or not it’s super bright or even in a darker environment.

The battery for this global variant is 5,080 mAh with 50W of charging, so that’s an easy full day with no drama.

Software is using Nothing OS 4.1 on top of Android 16, which is the cleanest and the most balanced and most bloatware free Android that you can get on this particular list with no sponsored apps whatsoever. And this is because it has the pure and fast Android with 3 years of OS updates and 6 years of security patches.

So who is this Nothing Phone (4a) Pro for? Well, if you want a phone that looks different and feels premium and comes with a proper telephoto lens at this price, well, this is your phone. Coming with a price of RM2,299, it is a very exciting value in this particular list.

Samsung Galaxy A57 5G

Samsung Galaxy A57 5G hero

I’m sure you might be asking, “Eh? Another A series in this list too?” Well, yes! Because there are just three words to describe this phone: reliability, repairs, and of course, resale as well. Because Samsung’s after sales network in Malaysia is totally unmatched. You can just walk into any Samsung Experience store from KL to Kota Kinabalu, you’ll get your service, you’ll get your parts, and you’ll get support that totally lasts.

Speaking of support, stock availability is also not an issue over here. Because of the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro that I mentioned earlier, this is not available on their website as of the timing of this review, but it’s available only for pre-order, so keep that in mind. But the update is the promise of 6 years of OS updates and 6 years of security patches. So yes, if you buy this phone today, Samsung will still be feeding it with updates to the year 2032. So that is the longest update commitment on any Samsung A series ever.

As for the specs, you get a 6.7 inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display with 120Hz refresh rate and Samsung’s very own Vision Booster for outdoor visibility. And it comes with the Exynos 1680, a 50MP main with OIS, a 12MP ultra wide, and a 5MP lens

The biggest yes for me on this is the phone’s camera consistency, where it has reliable photos every single time, which is true to Samsung’s signature colour science.

So you won’t get those crazy saturations like before during the day, but the night photos are where this phone’s biggest strength is. Because as seen in these photo samples taken at night, it really looks amazing for a phone within this price range.

Then there’s also 5,000 mAh of battery with 45W of wired charging. Is 45W charging the quickest? Absolutely not. But what you do get is an IP68-rated phone and of course Samsung’s One UI 8.5 on top of Android 16, which is polished, familiar, and one of the most refined Android skins out there.

And of course, all of the Galaxy AI features are also baked in, like the Voice Transcription, Ai Select, Circle To Search, Object Eraser, Best Face, and more, where these are features that you normally find on phones twice the price or even usually on a Samsung flagship.

Speaking of Samsung flagships, the A57 is just 6.9mm thin, and that is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S26. Yes, a mid range Samsung which is thinner than a flagship S series. The world has officially gone upside down!

The pricing is at RM2,399 for the 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and RM2,699 for the 512 GB of storage. But right now there’s even a launch rebate running, which brings this down to RM2,249 and RM2,399 respectively until the end of December 2026.

So if you value brand trust over raw specs, then this is your phone. Because the update promise is real, the build quality is very reliable, and the Samsung ecosystem is the best in the Android space.

Google Pixel 10a

Google Pixel 10a

Then phone number three is the Google Pixel 10a, at RM2,299 for the 128 GB of storage or RM2,799 if you want the 256 GB of storage.

This phone is going to confuse some of you because on paper these specs look almost identical to the Pixel 9a, which has the same Tensor G4 chip, same camera hardware, and the same battery.

So why bother, you may ask? Because Pixel phones have never been so much on the hardware. It’s about what Google does after you take a photo, or about what happens when AI does the heavy lifting. And the Pixel 10a is the smartest phone on this particular list, where you get four colours to choose from: Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian.

The design has a fully flushed camera bar. So yes, if you put this on a surface there’s absolutely no wobble at all because there’s no protruding lens hump at all, so it’s pure satisfying minimalism at its best.

The display is a 6.3 inch Actua display, making this the smallest phone on this particular list, but at 3,000 nits of peak brightness, where it also has the lowest nits value on this list. And for those of you who are tired of phones looking as big as a roti canai, this one fits in your jeans pocket without acting like a brick.

The camera is a 48MP main with OIS and a 13MP ultra wide. On paper it does sound basic, right? But in real use it still gives you some of the best photos at this particular price range. Because Google’s computational photography and things like:

  • Magic Eraser to remove tourists or photo bombers when you’re travelling
  • Best Take to swap faces in group photos
  • Photo Unblur to save any shaky photos that you take

All of that with Night Sight competes with phones that are twice this particular price.

It also comes with a 5,100 mAh of battery and also an IP68 rating. But the real headline on this particular phone is the 7 years of software updates. Yes, 7 years! And that’s one full year update more than the Samsung Galaxy A57, so your kids could actually inherit this phone before it stops getting any updates.

Xiaomi 17T

Xiaomi 17T hero

Then phone No. 4 is the Xiaomi 17T. This phone has just launched recently and honestly, this phone made me do the entire list all over again. Because at this particular price point, Xiaomi has changed the game.

You get four colours to choose from, which is Violet, Blue, Opal white, and Black. But let’s start with the main thing: the cameras. Because it comes with a triple setup co-developed with Leica, which is the Leica Summilux lens. Yes, that is a proper Leica, not for the sake of branding:

  • 50MP main with a Light Fusion 800 sensor and OIS
  • 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom and 10x lossless zoom
  • 12MP ultra wide lens
  • 32MP selfie camera up front

So yes, 5x optical zoom within this price point. And yes, that’s reaching even more than the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, which has an optical zoom of 3.5x.

And the Leica colour modes on this phone still change everything: Leica Vibrant for the punchy travel shots, or Leica Authentic for that natural look. So yeah, these two signature modes are something that any other brands cannot replicate.

Then the display is a 6.59 inch M10 AMOLED panel, which has 120Hz refresh rate with 3,500 nits of peak brightness. So the display is not the biggest wow factor compared to the rest, but you’ll appreciate this new smaller form factor for the non-Pro variant for the T series, because it makes it very much easy to use it with one hand. Especially if you’re scrolling on the move, which is still not recommended, because make sure to keep your eyes in front when you’re walking, not on the screen.

But here’s something completely new in the industry. Because this phone is the world’s first phone with TÜV Quadruple Eye Care certification, which doesn’t sound like a big deal until you realize how much you really need it before you even know it. It has low blue light, flicker free, circadian friendly, and intelligent eye care, which is perfect for those of you who scroll on your phone until 3:00am and beyond. So your eyes will thank you for that. Haha.

Under the hood, you get a MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset, which is a very solid mid range silicon. This is the first time that the non-Pro version of the T series is using the latest chip, and yes, it is plenty smooth when it comes to daily use and gaming.

The battery is a huge 6,500 mAh with 67W of fast HyperCharge and 22.5W of reverse wired charging. So if your friend is begging you for a power top-up, you can be the hero. And yes, the 67W charger is included in the box, at a time where the other brands on this list are charging you extra for the charging brick. So that is great. when it comes to using it daily, it easily gives you at least two days on a single charge.

It is also IP68 rated, runs on HyperOS 3 on Android 16, which is functional and looks good. But do expect to spend some few minutes to uninstall the preloaded apps. And there’s also 5 years of OS updates and 6 years of security patches.

But here’s the real kicker, because pricing in Malaysia is at RM2,399 for the 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for the online exclusive, and RM2,499 with the 512 GB variant. So that is well under the RM3,000 ceiling.

But if you pre-order the 512 GB variant between May 28th until June 11th, you actually get a free Redmi Pad 2 worth RM569. So yes, a free tablet when you buy a phone! So this is a kind of value that, you know, makes you drop everything and stop scrolling.

So who is this Xiaomi 17T for? Well, if you want Leica cameras with a proper 5x optical zoom, a big battery, and a signature Xiaomi value at this particular price point, then yes, this is your phone.

vivo X300 FE

vivo X300 FE hero

Last up is the vivo X300 FE. I know that this stretches the budget slightly at RM3,299, but I know what you might be thinking. You know that this is unfair to include this in this list, but stick with me here. Because the X300 FE does something that nobody else on this list can do.

It brings a flagship vivo into your wallet so easily. Because the bigger brother, the X300 Ultra, is at RM6,799, which is almost RM7,000. And the FE shares the same ZEISS DNA at less than half of the price, so that alone is worth listening to.

Because you get a triple camera setup with ZEISS co-engineering:

  • 50MP main
  • 50MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
  • 8MP ultra wide lens
  • 50MP selfie camera up front

The shots are detailed, colours come through very nice with the ZEISS Natural Colour profile, which looks punchy without being fake. And the portraits on this particular phone look like they were shot on a proper mirrorless camera. There’s also the new ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2, so you can push your reach further with a 200 millimeter lens, which is using optical zoom of course, for an extra RM999.

Then the display is a compact 6.31 inch LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate screen with 5,000 nits of peak brightness, which is the brightest display on this particular list.

Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is a proper flagship silicon, and we all know how powerful flagship Snapdragon chips are. As it is the same generation chip that you’ll find on phones costing over RM5,000, and because of that, it has buttery smooth gaming, no throttling at all on long sessions, and no overheating issues.

The battery is at 6,500 mAh like the Xiaomi 17T, but with 90W of fast charging and 40W of wireless charging too. Yes, actual fast wireless charging too! Not like the 10W wireless charging that you get on the Pixel 10a. But then again, the other phones on this list do not have wireless charging. It gives you about two days straight on a single charge.

Other than that, it’s also an IP68 and IP69 rated phone. It runs on OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 with 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security patches. So yes, 7 years of security patches, which matches the Pixel on this list. And at 191 grams it sits comfortably in the hand, which is compact and not too heavy.

Pricing in Malaysia starts at RM3,299 for the 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage. So if you can stretch your budget just a little more, this would be a very compelling choice.

Conclusion

Best Phones Under RM3000 in Malaysia 2026

So, five phones. All under or around RM3,000. All worth considering. So let me run through one last time with you.

  • First, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. This phone has a very unique design and has a proper periscope telephoto lens at RM2,299.
  • Then, the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is best when it comes to long term reliability and 6 years of software support, from RM2,249.
  • Then, the Google Pixel 10a is best for having very clean software, AI features, and of course 7 years of updates, from RM2,299.
  • Then, the Xiaomi 17T is best for the Leica cameras with 5x zoom and a massive battery, from RM2,399.
  • And finally, the vivo X300 FE is best when it comes to the ZEISS tuned cameras and flagship Snapdragon performance at RM3,299.

But you just want one winner, right? Well, my pick is this…

Xiaomi 17T

The reason being is that, at RM2,399 you’re walking away with a proper Leica Summilux camera with 5x zoom and 10x lossless zoom, a 6,500 mAh battery that lasts at least two days, all of that together with an IP68 protection. So this is pure value.

But, if you want a more unique design and a clean Android experience, then yes, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is right here.

If you want long term reliability and 6 to 7 years of software support, you have these two phones: the Samsung Galaxy A57 and the Pixel 10a.

If you have the extra budget for proper ZEISS optics, then the vivo X300 FE is your answer.

But for most people reading this, the Xiaomi 17T is the best phone under RM3,000 right now.
