Casio announces the release of the Casiotron TRN50-2A, a limited-edition watch commemorating the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking Casiotron, the world’s first digital watch with an automatic calendar.
The return of the Casiotron
“The 1974 Casiotron was a landmark moment,” says Casio America Chairman Tom Kato. “It revolutionized timekeeping by introducing digital technology and automatic calendars to wristwatches.”
The TRN50-2A faithfully replicates the original’s size and design while incorporating modern features for superior functionality. This includes Bluetooth connectivity for seamless smartphone pairing via the CASIO Watches app, ensuring precise timekeeping and automatic updates for world time zones, alarms, and more.
The watch maintains the original’s screw-lock case back, but with a modern twist: a transparent centre for radio wave reception. The case back also features a commemorative 50th-anniversary symbol and a unique serial number (from 0001/4000 to 4000/4000) highlighting its limited-edition status.
“The TRN50-A isn’t just a tribute, it’s a fusion of heritage and progress,” says Kato. “We’ve integrated features like smartphone connectivity, radio wave reception, and solar power, showcasing our constant drive for innovation.”
Additional features include 50-meter water resistance, a bright LED backlight, five daily alarms, and multi-city world time. The Casiotron TRN50-2A is available now for RM2,495 at the official Casio website.
