ChatGPT Health Arrives with Secure Data Integration and No Training on Chats

OpenAI Introduces “ChatGPT Health” to Personalise Wellness Support

OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Health, a new dedicated space within its popular chatbot designed to help users navigate their personal health journeys. The feature allows individuals to securely connect their medical records and wellness apps to receive personalised, data-backed insights.

The launch comes in response to the growing number of users turning to AI for health advice. According to OpenAI, over 230 million people globally ask ChatGPT health-related questions every week.

Connecting Data for Better Insights

ChatGPT Health

ChatGPT Health distinguishes itself by moving beyond general advice. Through partnerships with health management platforms like b.well Connected Health, users can now sync data from sources such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Peloton, and various electronic health record systems (currently limited to the US).

By having access to this context, the AI can perform tasks such as:

  • Explaining Lab Results: Breaking down complex medical jargon from bloodwork or test reports into plain language.
  • Appointment Preparation: Summarising clinical history to help users ask better questions during doctor visits.
  • Lifestyle Coaching: Offering diet and workout guidance tailored to a user’s specific activity levels and health history.

“ChatGPT Health is another step toward turning ChatGPT into a personal super-assistant that can support you with information and tools to achieve your goals across any part of your life,” said Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI.

Privacy and Security First

Recognising the sensitivity of medical data, OpenAI has built ChatGPT Health as an isolated environment. The company emphasises that conversations within this space are encrypted and, crucially, are not used to train OpenAI’s foundation models.

Users maintain full control over their data, with the ability to grant or revoke access to specific apps and records at any time.

Availability and Disclaimer

The feature is currently rolling out to a limited group of early testers via a waitlist. It will eventually be available to users on Free, Plus, and Pro plans, though initially excluded from the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the UK.

OpenAI stresses that ChatGPT Health is a support tool, not a replacement for professional medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment but rather to help users feel more informed and prepared when managing their well-being.
