Leaked iPhone 17e Report Reveals Surprising Display Decision

BOE Secures Lead for iPhone 17e Display Orders; LTPS Tech Confirmed

BOE has been selected as the primary display supplier for Apple’s upcoming budget-friendly iPhone 17e, according to a new report from The Elec. Slated for an early 2026 release, the device marks a significant win for the Chinese manufacturer, which has secured “first vendor” status ahead of rivals Samsung Display and LG Display.

Confirmed: 60Hz Display Technology

The most significant revelation for consumers concerns the display specifications. The leak confirms that the iPhone 17e will use LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) OLED panels.

This distinguishes the “e” model from the main iPhone 17 lineup, which has fully transitioned to LTPO panels. Consequently, the iPhone 17e will likely lack the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and Always-On Display features found in premium models, remaining capped at the standard 60Hz.

Design Refinements

Despite using older panel technology, the device is getting a modern facelift. While it retains the 6.1-inch screen size common since the iPhone 14, the iPhone 17e will feature thinner bezels, offering a sleeker aesthetic without altering the fundamental display architecture.

Supply Chain Strategy

BOE will supply the bulk of the estimated 8 million units scheduled for the first half of 2026, with Samsung and LG serving as secondary suppliers. This arrangement allows BOE to stabilise its position in Apple’s supply chain after struggling with yield issues on the more complex LTPO panels used in flagship models.

The strategy suggests Apple is committed to the “e” series as a high-margin entry point, recycling proven component technologies to compete aggressively in the mid-range market.
