Netflix has implemented a significant price increase for all its subscription plans in Malaysia, effective immediately. The move is aimed at bolstering revenue and funding its extensive content library.
Netflix Price Hike in Malaysia
The revised pricing structure is as follows:
- Basic: RM29.90/month (previously RM28)
- Standard: RM49.90/month (previously RM45)
- Premium: RM62.90/month (previously RM55)
- Mobile: RM18.90/month (previously RM17)
To curb account sharing, the streaming platform has implemented a fee for account sharing. Users who share their Standard or Premium plans with individuals outside their household will be charged an extra RM13 per month for each additional member.
This price hike is expected to impact Netflix add-on packages offered by various telecommunications and pay-TV providers. Astro, for instance, has confirmed that it will adjust its package prices accordingly, though existing customers with Netflix bundled in their plans will not see the increase until the 1st of March, 2025.
Netflix’s decision to increase prices in Malaysia is part of a global strategy to boost revenue and offset rising content costs. You can check out the official website for more information.
