So the Oppo Find X3 Pro is like cake. It’s either you like it….OR you will LOVE it! And besides the super cool Microscope Camera, what else would you like or love about the phone?
The phone’s design and build’s perspective was surely a head turner as it has a very unique finish and design. It’s single-piece ceramic glaze glass that just flows perfectly on the camera bump was a lovely feature as it isn’t much of a fingerprint magnet. Comes with IP68 rating, it sure gives us the peace of mind.
The 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED Display, with a very high resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz and not forgetting a really high 240Hz touch sampling rate made the phone to be one of the snappiest phones’s out in the market today when using the phone daily with a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
What’s nice is that the phone goes all the way down to a mere 5Hz, if you are stagnant on a screen probably reading something and adjusts to the refresh rate up when you go back to scrolling, which is also a plus feature to really make the phone consume less battery power.
If you are one of those who has only seen the phone only on the internet, rest assured that the screen quality cannot be justified just by watching YouTube videos here as you really need to see it in real life to really appreciate the colour accurate True Billion Color 10-bit display. Most smartphones uses an 8-bit display which has 16.7 million colors compared with 1.07 billion colors on a 10-bit display that the Oppo Find X3 Pro has. So with this, not only editing photos on the phone was great to get exact colour tweaks for photo or video editing, but also a superior dynamic range when editing.
Now on to the phone’s cameras, the main lens is a 50MP, f/1.8 aperture with another 50MP, f/2.2 UItrawide lenses where these two lenses are using the Sony IMX 766 sensor, a 13MP, f/2.4 telephoto lens and a 3MP, f/3.0 Micro Lens. Then as for the front camera, it has a 32MP, f/2.4 lens.
Starting from the main lens, you will get the highest quality images since this is the world’s ONLY billion colour camera and I have to say that Oppo has improved a lot for their image processing where the overall images not only looks really tack sharp but wasn’t over saturated as most smartphones tend to do. There is great subject to background blur for the portrait mode as well. You can now take photos with a higher 10-bit of the HEIF format instead of a typically compressed JPEG files which is good for professionals.
Oppo has given also us another 50MP for an ultrawide lens which is the world’s ONLY Android based smartphone that has a 50MP sensor, where the images also looked really great with amazing dynamic range and of course as mentioned by Oppo, there is no barrel distortion, where it was sharp from edge to edge and the amount of focal length that you get on this lens was extremely wide.
Note that the ultrawide camera can “convert” itself to the Macro Mode to get super close up shots. And speaking of Macro Mode, we all need to take a moment to appreciate the microscope mode on the phone with a ring light around it, which was similar to something called a Probe Lens.
This really reminded me of days when I was younger of trying to get as close as possible to tiny little things and this Microscopic Lens is NOT just a gimmick it is actually something that delivers great results and would be a great conversation starter when talking about the phone too. Looking at the night mode photos, you will get flagship level shots with a great balance of highlights and shadows as expected from Oppo. As for the regular selfie photos, pictures turned out great with nice skin tone colours and no sign of softness on the images. While the portrait selfie mode was also great with the subject to background blur, I did find that sometimes the background can be overexposed especially when there are backlit situations.
As for the video, it records up to 4K at 30fps for the rear camera with tons of great video-centric features like HDR, log and BT 2020 colour gamut video recording options, there is also full manual controls for the ISO, white balance, shutter speed and even focus which is a great tool for those content creators out there. As for the front video camera, it can only record up to 1080p, which would be nicer if it could go up to 4K where in which the camera had decent stabilisation and great dynamic range.
Backed by Android 11 and the brand new Color OS version 11.2, the responsiveness is great but the overall navigation and multi-tasking was second to none. Tiny but significant features like Quick Launch where once you press the fingerprint sensor you can slide and open up to 5 apps where you can choose the exact app that you want is something quite practical for my usage. I am sure you will also love the stock Android like icons and also the Google Home feed integration at the home screen, as it is such a helpful feature that many smartphones are integrating them lately.
As for gaming, there wasn’t a single moment that the phone had any overheating issues even during a very long gameplay. For you PUBG Mobile fans out there, the game ran perfectly at graphics set to HD and even a higher Ultra HD and only then there was a tiny bit of warmth but it didn’t affect the gameplay and the frame rate set to high as well.
As for the phone’s battery, the Oppo Find X3 Pro comes with 4,500mAh of battery, where the battery life was good even with 10-bit screen, high refresh rate and WQHD+ display turned on. There was an average of close to 4 hours when I was at 10% battery, so imagine the amount of battery life that you would get if you lower the screen resolution to FHD+.
And since the phone can charge up to 65 Watts SuperVooc 2.0 flash charge, (FYI, phone charger came with the box!), it got me from 0 up to 40% in 10 minutes! There is also wireless charging up to 30 Watts and reverse wireless charging at 10 Watts compared to the Oppo Find X2 Pro which didn’t have.
In conclusion, I personally like what Oppo has given to us. The phone is not ALL about only having a microscopic lens but also packed with one of the BEST smartphone displays, great build, amazing image and video quality making the phone an all-rounder beast.
With a price of RM4,299, I don’t see why not… Till then *smiles*
