Is AWESOME the new thing for Samsung?
The A72, claimed to be packed with all great features making it “Awesome!”
The Samsung A72 comes with the Snapdragon 720G 8NM chipset, with the Adreno 618 GPU and an 8GB RAM, 128GB storage. It is backed with Android 11 which comes shipped with the One UI version 3.1 skin. Packed with 5,000mAh of battery getting about 7 hours and 1 minute of screen on time at 10% battery with 90Hz refresh rate.
It has fast charging up to 25 watts whereas it comes shipped together with the phone.
Having a blue phone was tricky thinking it might dirt up pretty easily, but to my surprise, it didn’t since it has a matte finish. Coupled with the glossy side plastic frames, it had a nice grip on the phone as well.
It has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Display, with a resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels FHD+ with a refresh rate of 90Hz. While the peak brightness was not as high as a typical flagship phone at 800 nits, the screen resolution wasn’t as bad as I thought under bright sunlight. For the price, really there isn’t much to complain about.
Down to the phone’s cameras- it comes with a
64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), an 8 MP, f/2.4 (telephoto), a 12 MP, f/2.2 (Ultrawide) and a 5MP f/2.4 (Macro Lens). As for the front camera, it has a 32MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide lens).
Samsung usually does not usually cripple their camera performance for their A-Series phones as much as other smartphones do on their mid-range smartphones so yes, the same can be said for this A72 where the pictures for the main lens does look very awesome indeed, with nice scene optimization settings and also great dynamic range.
The ultrawide angle lens also performed exceptionally well as seen below, with absolutely no barrel distortion at the sides.
It comes packed up to 30x zoom which is a great feature but probably not something that you would take and upload on your social sites. The image quality for the 3x optical zoom was great so was the digital zoom of up to 10x.
There is a macro mode feature available for those who really like taking close up shots, where the image processing for this has heavily improved in which there was better focus on the subject and also almost zero to none on colour temperature shifts as well.
Some things awesome to note about this phone is the night shots, which although the phone doesn’t have a dedicated night mode it still looked really amazing with Samsung’s own scene optimizers. This brought the phone up similar to a flagship level.
Next is the amazing front camera a.k.a. selfie shots, where it surely was flagship-level material, especially with portrait mode used.
As for the video, both the rear and front camera can record up to 4K UHD 30fps. The is a super steady mode on 1080p resolution making it as if it was on a gimbal. There’s also built-in Snapchat filters within the camera app.
The fingerprint sensor is not comparable to Samsung’s flagship optical ones, hence it was harder to deter your fingerprints if your fingers are slightly wet or covered with dirt. Trust this can be solved with a further software update.
Down onto gaming. The phone had no issues while playing COD mobile and yes the infamous Genshin Impact, where there was some warmth during very long gameplay but the warmth was distributed evenly without having any issues slowing down the gameplay.
Since the introduction of the A70, Samsung has continued to build their this particular A-series smartphone to be as close as it can be towards being a true conqueror of the flagship market and its nice that besides having one of the best looking mid-range smartphones it also performs almost like a flagship-level phone.
The A72 retails at RM1,899. A great awesome deal I’d say to upgrade your A-series or to kickstart and jump on a Samsung bandwagon.
