PS5 30th Anniversary Themes Will be Removed Soon
PlayStation fans who were enjoying the limited-time 30th Anniversary themes on their PS5 consoles will have to say goodbye temporarily. Sony has announced that these nostalgic themes will be removed for a period, but will be making a triumphant return in “the months ahead.”
Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow.

Launched last December to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, these special themes offered a delightful trip down memory lane. Each theme didn’t just change the look of the PS5 UI—it brought back the sounds and design elements of past consoles. The PS1 theme featured retro blips, while the PS2 had edgy beeps. The PS3 introduced sophisticated clicks, and the PS4 delivered ethereal wooshes.
The temporary removal of these themes has left many fans disappointed, particularly given the positive reception they received. Nostalgia undoubtedly played a significant role. However, the popularity of these themes also shows a strong demand for customisable options on the PS5. Custom themes were a beloved feature on both the PS3 and PS4. Their absence in the current generation has been a noticeable omission.
The news of the temporary removal might be disheartening. However, PlayStation has confirmed that these cherished themes will return in the coming months. This gives fans something to look forward to and provides a renewed sense of anticipation for their eventual return.
A Call for Custom Themes
The popularity of the 30th Anniversary themes serves as a strong reminder to PlayStation of the desire for customisable themes on the PS5. With the current lack of this feature, many players are left longing for the ability to personalise their console experience.
Hopefully, Sony will take note of this strong demand and consider introducing a system that allows players to create and share custom themes in the future. This would not only enhance the user experience but also tap into the creativity of the PlayStation community.
