Samsung Malaysia today announced the launch of the sixth edition of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) 2024 competition. This nationwide initiative empowers secondary school students aged 13 to 15 (Forms 1 to 3) to leverage Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to address critical challenges faced by their local communities.
Fostering a Culture of Problem-Solving with STEM
Under the theme “Start with Can,” SFT 2024 encourages students to identify real-world issues and develop innovative solutions that contribute positively to their communities. This program aligns with Samsung Malaysia’s commitment to cultivating a future generation equipped with the necessary STEM skills to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“Samsung SFT is more than a competition; it’s a platform that empowers young minds to translate their ideas into tangible solutions that create a lasting impact,” said Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, Director of Corporate Affairs at Samsung Malaysia. “We believe in the potential of young innovators to address pressing community challenges through the power of STEM.”
A Collaborative Effort for Future Leaders
This year’s program is a collaborative effort between Samsung Malaysia and Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre. Ir. Dr. Mas Sahidayana Mohktar, Director of the Centre, emphasises the program’s significance in nurturing early-stage STEM education: “This initiative empowers young innovators to break through barriers and showcase their creativity. We firmly believe that these young minds hold the potential to shape a better future.”
A Platform to Showcase Innovation
Students are invited to submit detailed proposals outlining their innovative solutions in an 800-word format. Entries will be evaluated based on their relevance to the chosen theme, originality, feasibility, and effective application of STEM principles. The top 10 teams will advance to a workshop where they will receive mentorship to refine their ideas and develop prototypes.
Rewarding Innovation for a Brighter Tomorrow
The grand finale in December 2024 will see the top teams pitch their solutions to a distinguished panel of judges. Winning teams will be awarded exciting prizes, with the first-place team receiving Samsung products valued at up to RM28,000.
