After multiple rumours and leaks, Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a sleeker and more compact version of its widely popular foldable smartphone. This new release, available exclusively in South Korea, trims down some of the bulk of the global Galaxy Z Fold 6, delivering a more streamlined user experience without compromising on performance.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition: A Refined Design
The most striking feature of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is its refined dimensions. At just 10.6mm thick, it is noticeably slimmer than the 12.1mm thickness of the Z Fold 6. Though the difference in weight is marginal—a reduction of only 3 grams—the ergonomic improvements are sure to appeal to those who found the previous models cumbersome.
Samsung has also increased the size of both the internal and external displays slightly, now offering an 8-inch internal screen with a 20:18 aspect ratio. This change enhances the overall viewing experience, making the device more immersive for everything from media consumption to multitasking.
Performance Upgrades
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, ensuring top-tier performance. One of the more surprising upgrades is the jump to 165GB of RAM, which Samsung says will enhance the phone’s AI-driven capabilities, paving the way for faster processing and smarter user interactions.
Striking New Design and Camera Innovations
The Special Edition’s design takes a bold step forward. The back panel, with its distinctive striped glass, breaks away from the traditional solid colour finishes seen on previous models, adding a more premium and unique aesthetic.
The rear camera setup is another major departure. The familiar round camera array of the Z Fold 6 has been replaced by a squared-off camera bar. The headline feature here is the new 200MP primary sensor, designed to capture “more vivid and clear photos,” according to Samsung. This camera upgrade positions the Special Edition as not just a design-focused iteration but a serious photography contender in the foldable market.
Exclusive to Korea, with Potential for China
For now, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is a Korea-only release, with no plans for a global rollout. However, there are rumours that the device could eventually make its way to China. Global consumers may have to wait until the next iteration, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which could incorporate some of the design cues and innovations seen in this model.
