Shopee to Increase Seller Fees
E-commerce giant Shopee has announced an upcoming increase in its transaction fee for sellers, sparking discontent among online merchants. Starting from the 1st of August, the fee will jump from 2% to 3.5%, with an additional 8% Service Tax (SST), bringing the total to 3.78%.
The company justifies the hike by citing increased payment gateway fees incurred for every successful order. Shopee assures sellers that the transaction fee will be automatically deducted from their payouts upon order completion.
Shopee imposes a commission fee in addition to the transaction fee and the commission fee varies based on product category. It also depends on seller participation in the cashback programme. Additional charges include service fees for specific sellers and shipping fees determined by the chosen shipping channel.
The fee adjustment has ignited a firestorm on social media, with many Shopee sellers expressing their frustration and concern over the potential impact on their profit margins.
It remains to be seen how this fee increase will affect sellers’ operations and the overall competitive landscape of Malaysia’s e-commerce industry.
