Sonos Set to Release Their Own Android TV Box
After a tumultuous 2024 marked by app issues and the resignation of its CEO, Sonos is reportedly venturing into new territory. According to The Verge, the audio giant is developing its first-ever TV box, codenamed “Pinewood.”
This Android-powered device, however, will move away from the standard Google TV interface. Instead, it will offer a more refined user experience designed specifically for Sonos. Additionally, the box is expected to have a boxy design with a tapered front. In fact, its look will be similar to the Google TV Streamer released last year.
Key features of the Pinewood are likely to include:
- Local Content Search Hub: A centralised platform for searching across various streaming apps, similar to the functionality offered by JustWatch.
- Dedicated Remote: A physical remote control will be included, a departure from Sonos’s typical reliance on app-based controls for its audio products.
- Sonos Voice Integration: Full voice control will be supported, allowing users to seamlessly interact with the device using their voice.
However, the Pinewood is anticipated to carry a premium price tag, ranging from USD200 to USD400. This positions it as one of the most expensive streaming boxes currently available in the market.
