Tech Quickie: Firefox Gets A Redesign And New Prices For Disney+ Hotstar?

Tech Quickie is the segment on the Adam Lobo TV blog that brings you all the latest tech news in one place.

Firefox Redesign

For a while now, Firefox has been considered to be far behind when it comes to browsers with Chrome, Safari and most recently Microsoft Edge being ahead of the pack but Mozilla has just launched an update to the browser with the hope that Firefox becomes the browser of the people.

One of the biggest differences is the change to tabs. The tabs in Firefox are now a lot bigger and a cool touch is that the tab in focus will now float above the toolbar at the top of the browser. This is a stark difference when compared to the tabs in Chrome and Safari that stay attached to the toolbar. The new tabs are also a lot bigger in comparison to the previous iteration of the browser.  This screenshot from The Verge will give you a better idea of what it looks like.

According to Mozilla, the detached design was put in place as it allows people to move their tabs around easily.

“We detached the tab from the browser to invite you to move, rearrange and pull out tabs into a new window to suit your flow, and organize them so they’re easier for you to find,” Mozilla said in a blog.

Mozilla has also cleaned up the toolbar which helps it seem less cluttered and has provided more menus overall as well. The browser overall does look visually more appealing but is that enough to get people to switch over?

Different Disney+ Hotstar Prices Spotted in App Store

The long anticipated Disney+ Hotstar finally rolled out yesterday in Malaysia and was met with rave reviews. Many online were excited that they could finally tune in to their favourite Disney and Marvel shows on the platform. However, the billing cycle that was announced is rather different that what we are used to with streaming services. The service launched for RM54.90 for 3 months but SoyaCincau has spotted that there are significantly cheaper options in the Apple App Store.

Under the In-App Purchases section of the app listing, there are 3 different subscription options which include a quarterly subscription for RM54.90, a monthly subscription for RM11.90 and an annual subscription for RM62.90.

If you do the math, the current quarterly plan will cost you RM18.30 per month which is significantly more pricey than the monthly subscription listed and the annual subscription listed will only cost you RM5.24 per month. These prices don’t make much sense as the annual subscription is significantly cheaper than the monthly subscription which also puts the quarterly subscription in a weird spot.

There is currently no option to sign up for the monthly or the annual plan but the fact that it is listed in the App Store does suggest that it might be arriving soon, or it could be a mistake on Disney’s end. Either way, stay tuned to Adam Lobo TV for more updates.
