Xiaomi Custom Smartphone Chip Specs Leaked: TSMC N4P and Imagination GPU

The smartphone landscape is bracing for another significant shift as details have emerged regarding Xiaomi’s foray into the world of in-house silicon. A recent leak has unveiled the specifications of the first custom-designed smartphone System on a Chip (SoC) from Xiaomi, hinting at a potential debut in 2025.\

According to the leaked information, Xiaomi’s maiden SoC will be fabricated using TSMC’s advanced N4P process node, suggesting a focus on both performance and power efficiency. The core configuration appears to be a modern and capable setup, featuring an octa-core architecture. This includes a high-performance Cortex-X925 prime core clocked at a substantial 3.2 GHz, accompanied by three Cortex-A725 performance cores running at 2.6 GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A520 cores ticking at 2.0 GHz. This arrangement points towards a chip designed to handle demanding tasks while maintaining battery life for everyday use.

On the graphics front, Xiaomi has reportedly opted for an Imagination Technologies IMG DXT-72 GPU clocked at 1.3 GHz. Imagination Technologies is a well-established player in the GPU market, and the DXT-72 suggests a focus on delivering a smooth and responsive graphics experience for gaming and multimedia consumption.

Potential Debut and Target Device

While the exact name of the SoC remains under wraps, speculation is already rife about which Xiaomi device will be the first to feature this in-house silicon. The leak suggests a potential debut sometime in 2025, with whispers pointing towards a mid-range offering like the anticipated Xiaomi 15S. This strategy could allow Xiaomi to test and refine its chip in a less flagship-critical device before potentially integrating it into its premium offerings.

This move positions Xiaomi alongside other major smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Google, who have already invested significantly in developing their own SoCs (Exynos and Tensor, respectively). By designing their own chips, Xiaomi could gain greater control over the performance, efficiency, and features of their smartphones, potentially leading to better optimization between hardware and software.
